Donald Trump opened the 2025 Army-Navy football game with an atypical coin toss that has since gone viral on social media.
Trump, 79, attended the Saturday, Dec. 13, game — a long-running tradition for sitting presidents — and took the field at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium to handle the ceremonial pregame toss for the 126th edition of the event.
“Mr. President, would you do the honor?” a referee asked before handing Trump the coin that determined which team got to kick off, footage from the game shows.
Trump opted to place the coin in his palm, then throwing it into the air, where it did not appear to spin at all.
The coin landed on tails in favor of the Army Black Knights. However, the Navy Midshipmen later walked away victorious, securing a 17-16 win.

A video of the president’s flat, no-flip coin toss earned millions of views on social media, where his form spawned jokes, including many that questioned if it was Trump’s “first” time tossing a coin.
“Trump with one of the worst coin tosses I’ve seen lmao,” one person wrote alongside the clip, while another user reposted the video and captioned Trump’s attempt: “Me on my first day of coin toss school.”
“I’ve never seen someone screw up flipping a coin until now,” wrote a different user, as another said, “It’s actually possible he doesn’t understand how coin tosses work.”
Some other critics marveled at how Trump managed to get practically no rotation on the coin in the toss.
“President Trump threw the equivalent of a knuckle ball with his coin toss… no spin at all,” a user wrote on X. “Incredible… I don’t know how he pulled that off.”
Others joked that the president’s form would be great — if he was taking part in a different activity altogether.

One person joked that Trump’s move “probably would have made a fantastic toss in a game of cornhole.”
“This is like watching my 10-year-old chuck a bluegill back,” another added, as a different commenter echoed that Trump’s no-spin toss “looked like he was throwing a dead fish.”

Ahead of the Army-Navy game, Trump shared some thoughts about the matchup in a Truth Social post.
“Getting ready to land at Fort McHenry for my short drive to the Army-Navy Game,” wrote the president. “Everyone is asking who am I supporting, Army or Navy? My answer is: ‘You must be joking if you think I’m going to give you that answer!’ ”
