Street Fighter is bringing its bloody battles to the box office.
At the 2025 Game Awards on Dec. 11, the world got its first preview of the upcoming Street Fighter. The short sneak peek packed a punch, featuring footage of the iconic video game characters coming to life to face off against one another.
Street Fighter — set to be released next year — isn’t the first time the popular game franchise has been adapted for the big screen. A previous Street Fighter film, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá, Kylie Minogue and others, was released in 1994.
According to Deadline, the upcoming Street Fighter movie wrapped filming in fall 2025, and the first teaser was released at The Game Awards just a few weeks later.

The 2026 Street Fighter movie is going to be a nostalgia knockout, with the action taking place in the 1990s, specifically 1993.
According to the official plot description, per Deadline, Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are “estranged Street Fighters” who “are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury.”
The friends-turned-fighters learn of a “deadly conspiracy” lurking in the shadows of the competition, which “forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past,” the synopsis continues. “And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

When will the new Street Fighter movie be released?

Street Fighter will punch and kick its way into theaters on Oct. 16, 2026.
Not only will Street Fighter be released in theaters, but it was also filmed for IMAX, according to a press release.
The film’s premiere date will be nearly 40 years after the video game franchise first launched in August 1987.
Other video game adaptations scheduled to hit theaters next year include The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Mortal Kombat II.

An action-packed sneak peek made its world debut at The Game Awards on Dec. 11. The short teaser featured the classic video game characters in larger-than-life combat with one another.
The cast was on hand for a surprise appearance at The Game Awards, with Momoa telling the audience that he is a “lifelong Street Fighter fan, like, legitimately obsessed.”
Liang said the cast recently wrapped filming, and joked that she “had the distinct pleasure of kicking half of these guys in the face” as her character, Chun-Li.
