NEED TO KNOW
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are getting married — not IRL, but in their upcoming film The Drama.
Deadline first reported the A24 project in August 2024, noting that it was written and would be directed by Kristoffer Borgli (Dream Scenario). Zendaya and Pattinson star as Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, “a happily engaged couple” who are “put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails,” per the official synopsis.
In addition to the A-list leads, Mamoudou Athie, who previously starred in Jurassic World: Dominion, and Haim’s Alana Haim, known for Licorice Pizza, joined the cast the following October, per Deadline. Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone of Square Peg are set to produce.
The Drama will premiere in theaters on April 3, 2026, per Variety. Here’s everything to know about Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s upcoming rom-com.
What is The Drama about?
A24
Other than the single-line synopsis about an engaged couple who get “an unexpected turn” the week of their wedding, the plot for The Drama has been kept under wraps. However, Boston residents got to learn more about the fictional bride and groom in December 2025, when The Boston Globe ran a mock engagement ad for the fictional couple to promote the film.
“Mr and Mrs. Roger Harwood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emma Harwood, to Charlie Thompson, son of Mr. And Mrs. Alan Thompson of London, England,” the faux announcement read. “Mr. Harwood, a decorated military veteran, is proud to share this joyous news.”
The ad went on to outline Zendaya’s character’s accomplishments, including graduating from high school in 2013, earning an English degree from Boston University in 2017 and working at a fictional bookstore, Mission Books. Pattinson’s character, meanwhile, graduated from Eaton College in 2004, earned a Ph.D. in art history from Tufts University and later became director of the Cambridge Art Museum.
The engagement announcement ends with the couple’s wedding date: April 3, 2026.

The Drama stars Pattinson as Charlie, a museum director from London, who is engaged to Zendaya’s Emma, a bookstore clerk from Louisiana. The Mickey 17 star told the French publication Première that he leaned on his costar when he was struggling with a particular scene.
“We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson said in March 2025. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, to the point of writing pages and pages of textual analysis … I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene in question.”
He continued, “I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and blah blah blah, and after a while, very calmly, she finally made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning.”
This is the first of a few upcoming films that will feature Zendaya and Pattinson. They’re part of the ensemble cast for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and will star in Dune: Part Three. Zendaya will reprise her role as Chani and Pattinson will join the franchise for the first time as a villain.
Athie, Haim and Hailey Gates are also featured in The Drama, though their roles are unknown. Succession’s Zoë Winters is set to play a wedding photographer.

Borgli, who also wrote the script, is set to direct The Drama. This will mark the second film he’s worked on for A24, following the success of his 2023 comedy-horror flick Dream Scenario, which starred Nicolas Cage.
Is there a trailer for The Drama?
Yes, a teaser trailer for The Drama was released in December 2025. The short clip features Emma and Charlie meeting with their photographer for a warm-up photoshoot before the big day. But it’s clear from their awkward poses and chemistry that something is off.
While the camera starts to flash and the photographer instructs the soon-to-be-wed couple to “smile naturally,” the teaser flashes back to reveal the two in stressful moments. Emma is seen chugging a bottle of liquor in what appears to be her wedding dress while Charlie appears with blood on his face and tuxedo, seemingly being pulled from a fight.
The teaser wraps up with the photographer gently telling the couple that they’ll “get there on the day.”
