NEED TO KNOW
Kim Kardashian is willing to admit that she isn’t above going to certain lengths in her career.
In the latest episode of The Kardashians, which debuted on Thursday, Dec. 11, a surprise party was thrown for the mom of four to celebrate her graduation from law school after six years. Political analyst Van Jones was among the guests in attendance.
In a confessional, Kardashian, 45, said, “This whole process of law school has taken a village. It really started with Van Jones, who recommended I do this program.”
Jones, 57, who is also a lawyer, made a speech at the party, as he called Kardashian’s entrance into the criminal justice world “a miracle.”
“It’s a lonely fight, you get the smallest grants, your phone call gets returned last — if at all,” he said of the work. “And then a miracle happened: the biggest star in the world, a household name — if you go to Antarctica, the penguins know who the Kardashians are — raised her hand, said she wanted to help.”

Jones continued, “No one up here is gonna be petty, so I’m gonna be petty: people said this was about publicity. This whole thing was supposed to be some kind of a publicity… stunt.” Were that to be true, he quipped, that would be “the most labor-intensive publicity stunt in the history of publicity stunts. What kind of publicity stunt takes six years? No.”
Kardashian wasn’t so sure about that detail, though. “It was nice for him to say, but I was like, oh, this man does not know me,” she said in a confessional. “Kim K. would take six years for a PR stunt. Does he know who I am?”

“I was thinking, like, ‘Kourtney’s gonna be onto me.’ Of course, I’d take six years for a PR stunt!” she quipped, calling the notion “the most genius [stunt] of all time.” She clarified, though, that of course, there’s no truth to that narrative regarding her law aspirations. “I mean, that’s not why I’m in it, but you know what I mean.”

Jones has been an advocate for Kardashian since the early days of her pursuit of criminal justice reform, and his support of her efforts led to speculation that the pair were romantically involved for a while.
In 2022, Jones joked it was the “best rumor ever” during a podcast episode with the SKIMS founder, and she agreed it was “funny” — but said she “didn’t really expect that” to be the narrative.
“I know! It was so weird,” Jones agreed. “But I tell you, being a big nerd, having all my guys from college calling, like, thinking I was like the hero. I was like, ‘No, we’re just working on trying to get people out of prison.’ But it was a cool rumor.”
Despite graduation, Kardashian revealed in November that she did not pass the California bar exam she took in July, but remains committed to her pursuit of becoming a lawyer.
New episodes of The Kardashians premiere Thursdays on Hulu.
