NEED TO KNOW
Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley are sharing the unique holiday tradition they formed with their children.
While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE about their partnership with HomeGoods for the company’s annual Deck the Everything Day, the Sister, Sister stars, both 47, open up about one particular tradition that their kids always “look forward to” during the holiday season.
Tamara, who welcomed daughter Ariah, 10, and son Aden, 13, with husband Adam Housley, shares that they love “spending time together,” especially when it comes to playing games. Echoing her sister’s sentiments, Tia, who welcomed daughter Cairo, 7, and son Cree, 14, with ex-husband Cory Hardrict, adds that their kids like to play cornhole together.
“We introduced that to the kids, and they absolutely love it. So, when they’re together, they always love to do some sort of game outside,” Tia tells PEOPLE. “That has become a tradition.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the doting moms reflected on why the holiday season means so much to them. While the twin sisters describe themselves as “early decorators” who love all the festive decor the season brings, what really makes them excited for the season is getting the chance to spend quality time together as a family.
“Now that we’re moms and we’re our own business women, we have our own itineraries,” Tamera explains to PEOPLE. Referring to Tia, she adds, “And this one right here, she is forever busy. So, I love when the holidays roll around, because I know I’m going to see her.”
Tia continues, “That’s what I love about the holidays. It’s time when we all can be still and focus on what really matters. Which is family and creating memories.” She adds, “I think what’s so beautiful is now that we’re older, it’s not just you and I. It’s our children, it’s our kids.”
When it comes to their specific holiday plans this year, Tia and Tamera say logistics are still being figured out.
They explain that because they have a big family — they also have two younger brothers, Tahj and Tavior — it’s like a “puzzle” trying to lock in holiday plans with everyone. Tamera is also based in Napa Valley, and Tia is in Los Angeles, so the distance adds another layer of difficulty.
“But we make a point to see each other at least once a year,” Tia notes.

Tamera explains that they’re usually able to make holiday gatherings work if they dedicate either Thanksgiving or Christmas to spend all together as a family, as doing both can be tricky.
“It’s hard with our busy schedules and our different lives to do both Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, if we don’t do Christmas, we’ll do Thanksgiving. If we don’t do Thanksgiving, we do Christmas,” she says, noting that Christmas is a big holiday at her house.
“For my family, we always host Christmas dinner,” Tamara adds. “So, whoever’s available, they come. We do have our regulars — my mom is always the regular, my brother Tahj is always the regular — but it’s always nice when my dad and Tia come.”
They also note that during the years someone can’t make it, they have a simple solution to make sure everyone is included.
“We will always FaceTime” Tamera says.
