NEED TO KNOW
Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is sharing the answer to a frequently asked question.
In an Instagram Stories post on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the 34-year-old shared a photo of herself with short hair. She wore a white sweatshirt and a matching headband.
Above the photo, she included text reading, “Why do you wear wigs?”
At the bottom of the post, she answered: “This is my real natural hair. I had to cut it really short because nearly two years of bleaching completely fried it.”
Blanchard continued: “I don’t feel comfortable with short hair, so I normally wear a high-quality wig while my real hair grows back healthy. I’m giving my hair a fresh start so it can grow long again.”
Earlier this year, the subject of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up unveiled a dramatic new look.
In a photo shared to her Instagram account on Friday, May 2, Blanchard sat with her partner, Ken Urker, on a sofa together before the couple headed out for weekend activities.

The picture showed the mom of one rocking long blonde hair with loose curls as she smiled. She also wore a sexy, plunging halter-neck black leather-like top with light denim shorts that could barely be seen in the post.
She paired her outfit with white cowboy boots and added a necklace to accessorize.
The new blonde look was likely a wig, as she had shorter brown chin-length hair during Easter just a few weeks prior.
Blanchard previously shirked her signature brunette style to debut a highlighted frosty blonde shade in March 2024.

Since being released from prison for the 2016 murder of her 48-year-old mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, she has continued to change up her appearance, including chopping off eight inches of her locks and debuting a chic new bob.
“New year, new mom, new haircut, new me,” she captioned a post after she and Urker welcomed their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, on Dec. 28, 2024 — marking the one-year anniversary of her prison release.
In April 2024, Blanchard confirmed to PEOPLE that she was preparing to undergo rhinoplasty to change the shape and appearance of her nose.
“I’m going through a personal transformation journey currently and that includes a physical one, too,” she said in an exclusive statement. “Wish me luck with my surgery and watch the whole thing this summer on Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.”
According to Blanchard’s close friend Nadiya Vizier, the procedure is something she has been wanting for a while. “She said she’s a bit nervous, but she’s happy it’s going to be done,” Vizier told PEOPLE. “The main thing is that she wanted a more feminine-looking nose. She just wants to fix it up and give it a more feminine look.”

In a May TikTok after the surgery, Blanchard gave fans an update on the healing process.
“One of the things I’m dealing with is like, the internal stitches that still kind of itch, and let me just tell ya — this is gross, this is TMI — the boogers are insane!” she said. “These are huge!”
In a follow-up TikTok video titled “GRWM part 2,” she admitted that she has no immediate plans for any more plastic surgery.
“So I’ve been asked this before, if I wanted to get more plastic surgery done, and I honestly don’t,” Blanchard said. “I am very happy with everything else that’s on my body — I’m happy with my figure. I have a very womanly figure. I have curves, I have boobs. I’m very proud of those.”
