Robert Redford’s daughter is correcting the spread of misinformation around the legendary actor’s funeral arrangements following his death amid a slew of fake AI tributes.
In a statement posted to Instagram on Thursday, Nov. 21, Amy Redford, 55, spoke out against the fake funerals and tributes that have recently surfaced online.
“There have been multiple AI versions of funerals, tributes, and quotes from members of my family that are fabrications,” Amy wrote. “Renderings of my Dad, who clearly has no say, and depictions of my family that do not represent anyone in a positive light are extra challenging during a difficult time.”
“We are grieving together, and we are all in support of one another,” she added.

Speaking specifically to the use of AI in perpetuating falsehoods, Amy continued, “I simply ask, what if this was you? Let that be your guidepost. Let human authenticity live, inspire and be the connective tissue we all crave.”
She went on to share that a public funeral for her father has not been held and that the family is “working out our plans for a memorial in the future.”
“Every family should have the ability to mourn, represent the person they lost, and pay homage in the way that fits their values and family culture best,” Amy said.

Amy also thanked fans for their “overwhelming love and support” toward her and the rest of the Redford family.
“It’s clear that he meant so much to so many, and I know that my family is humbled by the outpouring of stories and tributes from all corners of the globe,” she wrote.
Robert Redford died on Sept. 16 at the age of 89. The Oscar-winning actor died in his sleep “at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowan PMK, told PEOPLE in a statement at the time.
Amy is one of Redford’s four children, along with siblings Scott, Shauna and James, whom he shares with his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen.
