NEED TO KNOW
Kate Beckinsale is celebrating her late mother’s life in a permanent way.
On Nov. 21, the actress debuted an arm tattoo of her mom, actress Judy Loe, who died at 78 on July 15 after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. The ink was done by Los Angeles artist Dr. Woo and is a portrait inspired by a photo of Loe in her younger years.
Along with the photos shared to Instagram, the Jolt star, 52, wrote a dark caption about getting the new tat. “If everyone would stop dying I wouldn’t have so many tattoos,” she wrote.
The post also showed two of Beckinsale’s other tattoos done by Endry Stymest. One is of an animal named Peepo (as reported by The Times in 2022, Peepo appears to be a fox Beckinsale fed in her mom’s garden) and the other is a phrase reading “fatherless scum,” which she got in June before Father’s Day.

Beckinsale opened up about the death of her mom on Instagram on July 17. “I don’t want to post this. I am only posting this because I have had to register my mother‘s death certificate and it will soon become public record. She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering,” she wrote.
“Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend,” she continued. “The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly,” adding that the death of her mother was “nearly impossible to bear.”
“Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father [Richard Beckinsale] dead at five and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry.”

In September, Beckinsale posted about the celebration of life hosted in honor of her mother (the post, which featured photos from the event, appears to have since been deleted). “Dearest Mama, The fact that you have had to have a funeral at all is wrong and ludicrous,” Beckinsale wrote at the time. “The only mandate you gave me over the years was that you wanted a celebration of your life and that no one was to wear black so no one did.”
Beckinsale had worked on the film Wildcat while simultaneously caring for Loe before her death. On Oct. 28, she posted on Instagram about how the cast and crew supported her during the difficult period of her life.
“Not only the best cast and crew but also the last movie set my mum was able to visit me on and my God they treated her like the queen she was. And supported me being her carer at night and working during the day which was a lot. Thank you. I’ll never forget the kindness x,” she wrote.
