Rocker Dale Bozzio’s son is raising money to help his famous mother remove her breast implants, something he says have been causing her “constant pain” and making it tough for her to perform.
Troy McKenzie, 33, launched a GoFundMe for his 70-year-old musician mom, saying the Missing Persons frontwoman needs surgery “as soon as possible” to remove her silicone breast implants.
McKenzie wrote that Bozzio was dealing with severe capsular contracture, meaning the scar tissue around her implants has become unusually hard and started to contract around the implant, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
“It has left her in constant pain, and it is very difficult for her to perform, record, or earn a living. After removal, she will need reconstructive surgery and extensive recovery,” he wrote. “She’s an amazing person, so kind and compassionate. We have the same birthday. I’ve always had a special connection with her. So it saddens me deeply to see what she’s going through.”
The Society said one in six breast augmentation patients experience some degree of capsular contracture, though symptoms and severity vary.

In addition to her work with Missing Persons, Bozzio, a onetime staple on MTV, has also enjoyed a successful solo career and collaborations with Frank Zappa.
The “Destination Unknown” singer’s son has so far raised $16,000 of his $35,000 goal, all of which is going toward Bozzio’s medical treatments and recovery. He estimated her recovery could take up to three months, and said the surgery is not covered by insurance.
“Every dollar donated goes directly to Dale’s medical treatments and healing so that we can get her well and back out there rocking for you,” he wrote, adding that donations would provide “much-needed financial relief and peace of mind.” “Any help will be immensely appreciated by Dale.”
Bozzio founded Missing Persons in 1980 with her ex-husband Terry Bozzio and Warren Cuccurullo, and the group disbanded in 1986 after their third album.
She recently opened up about her past health issues in an April episode of Billy Corgan’s The Magnificent Others podcast.
In 1976, Bozzio fell 40 feet from a Los Angeles hotel window after an intruder broke into her room and threatened to kill her. She spent several months in a coma, and suffered a broken kneecap, broken ribs and a split head that required 52 stitches, she said.
