It’s almost time to go back to the Hunger Games.
On Thursday, Nov. 20, Lionsgate debuted a new teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, one year ahead of its release date.
The prequel film, directed by Francis Lawrence and based on the Suzanne Collins novel, tells the origin story of Haymitch Abernathy, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the previous films that starred Jennifer Lawrence.
Here, We Were Liars star Joseph Zada, 20, stars as the young Haymitch as he’s drafted into competing in the 50th Games.

The star-studded cast includes Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Edvin Ryding, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, Billy Porter and Iris Apatow. Ralph Fiennes steps into the role of President Snow.
This will be the sixth Hunger Games movie, each based on books by Collins. Lawrence debuted as Katniss Everdeen in the first film, released in 2012. Catching Fire came in 2013, then a Mockingjay two-parter in 2014 and 2015.
Later, the prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes came in 2023, starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth.
