Lauren Sánchez Bezos is sharing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her husband Jeff Bezos during the launch of his New Glenn rocket.
Sánchez, 55, shared several photos of Bezos, 61, in a Thursday, Nov. 13 Instagram post. “Watching New Glenn rise and then land on Jacklyn (named after Jeff’s mom) was so emotional for me, and it reflects years of discipline and dedication from Jeff and the entire Blue Origin team,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m so proud of you all for this epic milestone. 🚀❤️❤️”
In the photos, the Amazon founder wears a headset and cheers as the rocket takes flight. The flight of the New Glenn rocket put two small NASA satellites on a long journey to Mars, CBS News reports.
The launch was three days late on account of stormy weather on Earth and in space.
Now that they’ve been launched, the NASA satellites are tasked with gathering information on the red planet’s thinning atmosphere.
New Glenn, which stands at 321 feet tall and contains seven methane burning engines, was launched at 3:55 p.m. E.T., according to the outlet. The launch occurred at the John F. Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Florida, according to ABC 7.
Jacklyn, named after Bezos’ mother, refers to an offshore landing ship, per CBS.
Bezos’ Blue Origin previously attracted criticism for its space flight in April, which held a 10-passenger crew including Sánchez, Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn. The crew took an 11-minute voyage to the edge of outer space before returning to Earth.
