George Clooney isn’t ruling out a return to scrubs.
The Oscar winner, 64, revealed to Entertainment Tonight that there could be a future for him on The Pitt, but he hasn’t reached out to the HBO Max series star and his former ER castmate, Noah Wyle, about it.
After being asked on Tuesday, Nov. 11 if he’d want to “get back in the E.R.” and join The Pitt, the ER alum said he’d “do that in a heartbeat.”
“[I haven’t] talked to him about being on the show because it is his show,” Clooney said of Wyle, 54, while at the premiere of Jay Kelly. “I don’t want to interrupt. But I am deeply proud of him, if I’m allowed to be proud of him.”

ER debuted on NBC in 1994 and ran for 15 seasons, with Clooney departing the original cast in 1999 at the end of season 5. He later joined for cameos in season 6 and the series finale. Clooney and Wyle starred as Doug Ross and John Carter, respectively, in the long-running medical series.
“Because what a beautiful show it is and what a great success it has been,” Clooney told ET. “And what a fun thing to have him continuing on in the tradition.”

Clooney previously weighed in on The Pitt back in June, when he called the series “so good” during an episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers. He also shared that he remains “really dear friends” with Wyle.
“He is just the most honorable, talented young man, I get to say, because I’m an old man,” Clooney said. “And I cannot be happier for his success on this show. The show is just a beautiful show, and he does just a great job with it.”

Clooney and Wyle also reunited with their ER costars, Julianna Margulies and Anthony Edwards, in April, when the crew attended the the opening night of Good Night, and Good Luck to support Clooney’s Broadway debut.
Margulies told PEOPLE in October 2024 that she had reached out to her former costar to give him “a lot of kudos” for his decision to do Broadway.
“I just emailed him and said, ‘I’m so proud of you. You don’t have to do this,’ ” she recalled. “It’s scary, you know, being on Broadway. And the world we live in now, everyone’s a judge, and you have to block all that out and do your work. And so, I’m really proud of him for picking a hard road. It’s not easy work, and I’m really impressed that he’s doing it.”
Season 2 of The Pitt is slated to premiere in January on HBO.
