NEED TO KNOW
Hilary Duff’s first original new music in 10 years has finally arrived!
On Thursday, Nov. 6, the actress and musician released her new single, “Mature” — cowritten and produced by her husband Matthew Koma — alongside a music video, marking her first new original single since her 2015 album Breathe In. Breathe Out.
The track, also cowritten with Madison Love, finds Duff, 38, returning to her pop-rock roots while looking back on past moments from her life in the lyrics: “She looks like all of your girls but blonder / A little like me just younger / Bet she loves when she hears you say / You’re so mature for your age, babe.”

Duff said in a statement, “Mature’ is a little conversation that my present self is having with my younger self.”
“The two of us are reflecting on a past experience and sending love to each other,” she continued. “It’s a chuckle, a wink and a sense of being grateful that we are sure footed in where we landed.”
The song’s music video centers on two versions of Duff — one in an empty theater, dancing on stage in a fur coat and shimmering dress and another sporting a leather coat in the audience.

The How I Met Your Father star described the video’s concept as “meeting yourself where you where you landed” in an interview with Jake Shane on Therapuss.
She also spoke about how the end of the video nods at her 2003 debut album. “There’s butterflies that are big themes in my life since Metamorphosis. And there’s a little sweet butterfly moment in the video, which I really love,” said Duff.
“I feel like being where I am now, it’s really nice to send love back to yourself that’s gone through whatever it’s taken you to get wherever you are,” she continued on the podcast. “I like all those little nods and those little gifts that you can send back to yourself to be like, ‘Hey, it was cool. We got here.’”
On Monday, Nov. 3, the Lizzie McGuire alum shared an Instagram post announcing the single.
“So happy this is finally yours to hear. Been keeping this one quiet too long. My new single Mature is out Nov 6. 🍸🪩🍒” she captioned the post which featured the kaleidoscopic single artwork for “Mature.”
In September, Duff revealed that she signed with Atlantic Records and has a docuseries on the way.
According to a press release, the project, directed and executive-produced by Sam Wrench, “will chronicle Duff’s long-awaited musical return and personal journey, offering an unfiltered vignette into Hilary’s world.”
The series will showcase her “ups, downs, and everything in between,” and “fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.”

The docuseries will feature interviews, performances and videos from her personal archive.
At the time, the “Come Clean” hitmaker also teased her new chapter on Instagram.
“new music … or something 🪩✨🍒,” Duff wrote, alongside a series of photos including one of her smiling and leaning back on a chair in a white T-shirt and jeans and one where she seemed to be holding a phone with lyrics as a pair of headphones were in front of her. In the final image, Duff appeared in the studio with her arms around Koma, 38, as he played the keyboard.
