Rowland previously told PEOPLE shortly after Titan was born that the “most surprising” part of becoming a mother was discovering “how much joy he has given” her.
“When he laughed for the first time, I cried,” she told PEOPLE in a March 2015 conversation. “It was the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard.”

Over the past few years, Rowland has opened up about her parenthood journey, sharing with Kindred By PARENTS that she wants her sons to be confident.
“I just want to get this right. I want to really be a part of bringing some really amazing young men forth into the world. That was my only prayer,” she said in the October 2023 interview. “My only prayer was to have really great young Black men in this world who were sure of themselves and didn’t have to be told who they were.”
“I really cared about that because the narrative is tough as it is,” she added.

In 2024, she also reflected on how important it is to her to enjoy all the moments with her sons, telling PEOPLE, “Let’s be lost in their interests and the things that bring them joy. Let’s have joy with them about it.”
“I’ll sit out here and watch [Titan] do basketball or do whatever it is that he loves so much because I want him to know that I see it. It’s wonderful,” she continued.
Months later, she confessed that she’s sometimes too supportive of Titan that her husband suggested she doesn’t need to attend every game.
“I had to pull back from some of the games,” Rowland said on The Jennifer Hudson Show in January. “I’m the spirited mom.”
