NEED TO KNOW
Cher believes in always staying true to herself.
The “Believe” singer, 79, shared on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, Nov. 4, that she isn’t constantly thinking about reinventing herself or her music because she knows how to pivot to new things when necessary.
“So, you’re not thinking about, you’ve gotta reinvent, reinvent?” CBS Mornings host Gayle King asked the musician during an interview, to which she responded, “No, no, no.”
“I feel like I always thought of myself as a bumper car, ‘cause like if I hit the wall, I would just back up and go in a different direction,” Cher explained.

Throughout her decades-long career, which kicked off in 1965 when she was part of folk rock duo Sonny & Cher, Cher has had hits across multiple musical genres, including rock, folk-pop, pop, dance-pop, disco, R&B, soul and country rock.
The Grammy winner also shared that she’s “never reinvented” herself — “not for one moment” — and has kept true to herself throughout her life and career.

“I was popular or I wasn’t popular, but I’ve always been exactly who I am,” she told King.
That authenticity also extends to her fans. She told CBS Mornings that maintaining honesty with them has been a top priority of hers throughout her career.
“I get offered to do everything … and … I just don’t want to, because people feel that I wouldn’t lie to them and I don’t wanna ever have, you know, I don’t ever want that to change,” she said.
While discussing her book, Cher: The Memoir, and her several other projects, including a part two of her memoir and her gelato business called “Cherlato,” the Burlesque star shared one of her favorite quotes: “I’m not Cher. I’m just a woman who works.”
“And that’s how I started out,” Cher told King, 70, adding that’s the mindset that she continues to have today.

“I guess, it’s like I don’t go around saying, ‘I’m a star. I’m a star.’ You know?” she explained. “I’m happy, and I’m really, really happy.”
Part of that happiness stems from her relationship with music producer Alexander “A.E.” Edwards, whom she has been seeing for three years. She told King that age wasn’t an issue between them, and they “laugh all the time.”
“I just love him,” she added of the 39-year-old music executive. “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
