Bryant Gumbel is celebrating “good health” with his friend Al Roker and their wives.
Less than two weeks after the former Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel host suffered a medical emergency at his New York City apartment, Gumbel, 77, and his wife Hilary enjoyed an outing with Roker, 71, and his wife Deborah Roberts.
Hilary posted a photo from the double date to her Instagram Story on Thursday, Oct. 30, writing, “Perfect way to cherish the gift of good health! With @debrobertsabc and Al Roker,” adding a prayer hands emoji and a red heart.
Deborah, 65, reposted the photo, which shows the women with their arms around each other in the middle as their husbands sit on the ends of a restaurant booth, and added, “Friendship is everything!”

Gumbel, also a former cohost on Today, was taken from his apartment building in Manhattan to a local hospital around 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, according to TMZ. He was reportedly escorted from the building on a gurney by first responders and was still being treated as of the following afternoon.
Additional information about what led to the medical emergency was not made available, but a family member of Gumbel’s told TMZ he was “okay” shortly after the incident.
In 2009, Gumbel revealed he had surgery to remove a malignant tumor and part of his lung. “They opened up my chest, they took out a malignant tumor, they took out part of my lung and they took out some other goodies,” he said at the time.
One year later, he told PEOPLE, “Doctors tell me I’m free and clear, so I hope for better times.”
The former sportscaster and his wife Hilary have been married since 2002. Before that relationship, Gumbel was married to June Baranco from 1963 to 2001. June and Gumbel share two children: Jillian and Christopher.
In December 2024, Gumbel lost his older brother, renowned NFL broadcaster and March Madness host Greg Gumbel, His family gave a statement to PEOPLE at the time of Greg’s death, saying, “It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer.”
