NEED TO KNOW
Elle has always got her sister Dakota Fanning’s back — especially when it comes to dating.
Speaking with The Sunday Times for an interview published Oct. 26, Dakota, 31, opened up about her status as a single woman and her dating life in Los Angeles.
The Perfect Couple alum recounted one occasion in which Elle, 27, visited a psychic — who gave her a prediction about her older sister’s love life.
“My sister spoke to a psychic who said, ‘Your sister is not going to meet the person she is going to marry until she’s 32.’ She told me that a few years ago, and I was, like, 32? I don’t have time for that,” Dakota joked to the outlet.
According to Dakota, the sisters once had a tense encounter with a rude man that ended with the Complete Unknown star’s drink all over him.
“It was even worse,” Fanning recalled. “She accidentally spat her drink out on the man.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Dakota opened up about how she and Elle have tried to keep their careers separate as kids. But, as adults, “there’s nothing more fun than doing things together.”
The sisters are set to begin production on The Nightingale soon. The film is an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s book about two sisters in the French Resistance during World War II. (The movie is due in theaters in 2027; Elle and Dakota will produce as well as star.)
The last time the pair appeared in a movie together was 2001’s I Am Sam, when Dakota, then seven, costarred with Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle portrayed a younger version of Dakota’s character.
According to Dakota, she has to try hard not to slip into “older sister behavior” when they’re on set together.
“I can’t say, ‘Stop talking.’ If I wouldn’t say it to another actor, I can’t say it to her,” she explained.

Earlier this year, Dakota told Vanity Fair in a cover story that she and her younger sister don’t feel they have ever been competitive with each other.
“Zero. We obviously share a lot, but we’re very different,” Dakota said in a September interview. “So I don’t even see something that’s right for her as being right for me. I don’t feel competitive. But I know that people probably don’t believe that.”

“When we were younger, we wanted to make sure that people saw us differently, and we wanted to give each other space to carve our own path,” Elle added to the outlet about working with Dakota moving forward. “But as adults, it’s been very fulfilling to merge.”
Despite both sisters’ success in acting through young adulthood, Elle still says that she simply likes to follow Dakota’s lead. “I just want to do everything that she does,” she told the outlet about her own career. “I’m a nepo sister. Of course, I got opportunities because people are like, ‘Oh, it’s Dakota Fanning’s sister. We’ll see her audition.’ ”

Speaking about working together on The Nightingale when the film was first announced, the sisters told Vanity Fair that they aren’t sure what to expect of being on a set together.
“We’ve literally never done a scene together, ever,” Dakota told the outlet. “Am I going to laugh?” “Better to get it out of your system now,” Elle added.
Dakota most recently appeared in the 2025 movie Vicious and 2024’s The Watchers, as well as the 2024 series The Perfect Couple and Ripley.
The Great star Elle, meanwhile, most recently appeared in the movie Sentimental Value, which appears to be a potential awards season contender following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film releases nationwide Nov. 7.
