Malin Akerman is breaking down how she and Brittany Snow got comfortable ahead of their intimate scenes in The Hunting Wives.
Speaking at the She Sees Me: The Power of Female Friendship (in Life and Art) panel on Saturday, Oct. 11, the Netflix star, 47, revealed that there was “a lot of nerves” before their first “intimate” moment on set together.
“Before our very first intimate scene together, there was a lot of nerves and we’re so used to dissecting our own bodies and looking in the mirror and finding all the things that were wrong with our bodies and it’s terrible,” Akerman, who plays Margo Banks in the series, said. “And we saw it in each other firsthand as we were like, ‘Oh my God.’ ”
“I just went, ‘Britt, you know what? We’re f—— beautiful. We’ve worked hard for these bodies. We’ve worked hard our whole lives and you’re a beautiful f—— person and let’s not do this,’ ” she said, adding, “‘Let’s just go out there and have a great time — as much as you can with all these cameramen. It’s a weird time, but let’s just be in it together and let’s support each other right now and let’s just feel great about ourselves and let’s just, I look at you and you’re beautiful, and let’s celebrate our bodies right now.’ ”

The moment was also a “cheerleading moment” for the pair, which Akerman ultimately called “beautiful.”
“This set specifically has been so, it’s been so important to have these relationships work because of the intimacy of the relationships on screen,” she added. “I hope and I think that it shines through that there is this baseline, there’s this support group between every take and everyone just wants everyone to win.”

On Sept. 12, Netflix announced that the hit series had been renewed for a second season. The show follows Snow’s Sophie, who struggles to adjust to a new life in Texas but forms a close and complicated bond with Akerman’s Margo. Season 2 is set to be based on an original script after the first season of The Hunting Wives was based on May Cobb’s book of the same name. It picks up with Sophie and Margo “on the outs” following the dramatic finale to season 1, per a logline.
“But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
In a statement at the time, showrunner Rebecca Cutter said she “can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, bats— crazy ride through Maple Brook.” The next installment of the series will feature Snow and Akerman returning, along with Jaime Ray Newman as Callie, Dermot Mulroney as Jed, Evan Jonigkeit as Graham and George Ferrier as Brad.
Season 1 of The Hunting Wives can be streamed in full on Netflix.
