NEED TO KNOW
When Taylor Swift called years ago, Scott Eastwood answered — but he wasn’t sure who was on the other end of the line.
Talking with the Associated Press alongside Mason Thames and Dave Franco, his costars in the upcoming romantic drama Regretting You, Eastwood, 39, remembered how Swift, 35, got in touch to offer him the role as her love interest in the video for her 2015 track “Wildest Dreams.”
The subject came up when the reporter noted that Eastwood seemed to have the most romantic credits to his name, including the time he romanced Swift in the clip for the Billboard Hot 100 top 5 hit.

“Scott, I don’t know if you know this, did anyone tell you that we all watched the ‘Wildest Dreams’ video on set?,” Franco said, prompting Eastwood, who also appeared in 2015’s The Longest Ride and 2017’s Walk of Fame, to admit that he was unaware.
Their costar Mckenna Grace, “didn’t realize that you were the guy [in ‘Wildest Dreams’],” continued Franco. “Like this is a video dear to her heart, and she put it together in the moment: Scott’s the guy from the ‘Wildest Dreams’ video. She immediately called her mom. She goes ‘Scott’s the guy.’ And we hear her mom through the phone go, ‘No!’ You have a place in a lot of people’s hearts with that video.”
Eastwood said someone had recently asked him what the experience was like and remembered how Swift cold-called him. “I’d never met Taylor Swift before. She called me out of the blue. She said, ‘Hey this is Taylor.’ I’m, like, Taylor who?” he said. “‘Taylor Swift.'”

In the video, Eastwood and Swift played actors filming a romantic movie set against an African landscape.
Director Joseph Kahn, who also worked with Swift on her videos for “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood,” previously said they based the video “on classic Hollywood romances like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, as well as classic movies like The African Queen, Out of Africa and The English Patient, to name a few.”

In the years since he made the video, Eastwood has spoken about the “fond memories” he has of his time with Swift, as he told E! News in 2023.
“Taylor Swift has become the biggest star in the world,” he said, acknowledging that they don’t keep in touch. “She’s got a whole tour to do. She does not need to be talking to me.” (Swift launched her Eras Tour in March 2023.)

“I’m glad I did that — because people told me not to do it at the time,” he added of the video. His response to those naysayers? “Taylor Swift’s cool.”
Regretting You, based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, is in theaters everywhere on Friday, Oct. 24.
