NEED TO KNOW
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This season 2.
Jackie Tohn didn’t have the reaction you might expect when her character Esther got bold, blunt bangs on Nobody Wants This season 2.
On the Netflix hit, Esther made the rash decision to get bangs as she and husband Sasha (Timothy Simons) were in discussion about whether to have another baby.
She debuted the new look on a double date with Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) and then confessed to Joanne that she might be pregnant, which explained the sudden hairstyle change.
For Tohn, 45, in real life, though, the haircut was “fun” for a surprising reason.
“I had that identical haircut for a decade,” the actress tells PEOPLE. “So I wasn’t like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never seen myself like this.’ I was like, ‘Oh, right.'”

She says Esther’s look reminded her of “when I thought I was quirky and cut bangs for nine years.”
“I think they’re really fun,” she admits of the controversial hairstyle.
But right now, she’s content being bang-free in real life.
“I was like, ‘I would love it if I didn’t,'” she admits to opting for clip-ins instead of cutting her own hair. “I like them, but just — bangs are so hard, and they’re so hard to grow out, and I feel like they’re such a look that… I want to be able to do more [with my hair].”

“Little clip-ins are so realistic now,” she adds. “That’s all completely real hair and they styled it perfectly. So I was pumped about the bangs and the look change.”
For Simons, who plays Sasha, he said he was “stoked” about Esther’s look. “Because — this happened six months before we started filming — there was a study released that, if somebody cuts bangs, it’s proven that something is going on in their lives,” he tells PEOPLE.
It hit home even more for the Veep alum, 47, who says, “Without knowing that this was a storyline, I had a really good friend of mine from L.A. who just one day cut bangs and sent me a picture, and my first response was like, ‘Hey, are you doing okay?'”
Nobody Wants This season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
