AJ McLean can count Taylor Swift as a fan.
On Monday, Oct. 20, the 35-year-old The Life of a Showgirl popstar commented on a video of the Backstreet Boys singer, 47, performing to a mashup of her 2025 song “Elizabeth Taylor” and his throwback hit “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
The remix featured Swift’s lyrics over the Backstreet Boys’ beats.
“Come on now you know one of us had to! @taylorswift !,” McLean captioned the post on his profile. In the comment section, Swift expressed her excitement, writing, “OH HI AJ OH MY GOD.”
Her reaction quickly racked up nearly 95,000 likes, and Swifties rushed to weigh in on the video.

Yet another fan pleaded, “@taylorswift please remix please yall sound incredible.”
On Oct. 3, Swift released her 12th studio album; “Elizabeth Taylor” is the project’s second track and is named after the late Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor with lyrical references to her life.

Following its release, Swift opened up about her admiration for Taylor and the meaning behind the song.
“In this record, there’s a song called ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ which is sort of my emotions and my issues with fame through the lens of cosplaying the life of Elizabeth Taylor, so you kind of meld the two experiences together,” she said in an interview with Z100’s Elvis Duran Show.
Swift continued, “She is always someone that I’ve looked up to as being this very glamorous, very beloved, but for some reason a polarizing figure, which I found myself in that place, too.”
McLean is gearing up to release his upcoming EP, Hi, My Name Is Alex, which arrives Nov. 27. An album called Hi, My Name Is Alexander James will follow.
During an Oct. 20 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, he revealed that the project was four years in the making.
“Normally new music comes out, as you know, on a Friday,” he said, noting that the EP’s release date was actually his daughter’s birthday as well as Thanksgiving. “I’ve gone against conventional rules my whole life, so I figured why not throw a curveball and put it out on Thanksgiving because, in my mind, I’m so thankful and grateful for the fans that have waited so patiently for this. I promise you it’s worth the wait.”
