Eric Church is looking back on a moment when his wife, Katherine, wasn’t too happy with him.
During a concert at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Thursday, Oct. 2, the 48-year-old country star told a story about dedicating his 2014 song “That’s Damn Rock & Roll” to Katherine in a move she thought was “f—ed up.”
“I was kind of caught up in the moment of the show, and I wanted to call them out and talk about how important this journey has been for me,” said Eric on stage, seemingly referencing his wife and their two sons, according to a TikTok video shared by an attendee.

“I happened to call them out and talk about that before the next song that I’m about to play you,” added the “Springsteen” singer. “The first few lines of this song are: ‘It ain’t a needle in a vein. It ain’t backstage sex. It ain’t lines of cocaine on a private jet.’”
After the show, Eric heard from Katherine. “I walk off stage, and my wife goes, ‘What the f— is wrong with you?’ She goes, ‘There’s 30 songs you could have dedicated to me, but those first three lines alone,'” he recalled. “She goes, ‘That’s f—ed up.'”
The crowd laughed, and the Grammy-nominated artist concluded, “So I’ve played this song every show since.”
“That’s Damn Rock & Roll” appears on Eric’s 2014 The Outsiders album, which charted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
According to the Eric’s website, he’s performed the song at least 482 times and debuted it at a show in Chicago in February 2014.

Eric and Katherine tied the knot in 2008 and share two sons, Boone McCoy and Tennessee “Hawk” Hawkins.
The “Drink in My Hand” performer is currently in the midst of his Free the Machine Tour, which continues with shows in North America through mid-November. His latest album, Evangeline vs. the Machine, was released in May.
