Evan Dando recalled a time when he and Johnny Depp did LSD and went on “an adventure.”
In his memoir Rumors of My Demise (out now via Gallery Books), the Lemonheads’ bandleader claimed he and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor dropped acid and went to Dando’s record label.
Depp, 62, initially met Dando, 58, while he was making the 1992 album It’s a Shame About Ray. According to the “Into Your Arms” artist, the Cry Baby actor became a fan of his while he dated Winona Ryder because she made him a tape of Lemonheads songs.
The pair became friends — and Dando even moved in with Depp in Los Angeles for a few months.
The “My Drug Buddy” musician claimed that one day, he and the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas star dropped acid and “decided to go on an adventure.”
The duo initially visited Dando’s record label, Atlantic Records, which was under construction from a renovation. According to him, scaffolding covered the top two floors and the building — which “sparked an idea.”
“What if we climbed out onto the scaffolding and said hello to everyone through the windows from the outside looking in? That could be funny,” he wrote.

As the acid was kicking in, Dando claimed, he and Depp “needed to move” and did laps around the building picking up speed as they continued.
“Everyone in the office was losing their s— because we were up on the 20th floor, racing around the building, laughing our asses off, he wrote, noting that people were probably imagining the headlines if something tragic happened, like, “Johnny Depp Plunges to His Death During LSD Freakout.”
Dando said at one point they wanted a cigarette, so they climbed inside again and went to see the “Rudderless” performer’s A&R representative.
“We sat in his office smoking cigarettes, all three of us pretending everything was completely normal, but the rep was pretty freaked out,” he recalled.
After the fact, Dando claimed he and Depp laughed about the situation back at his house.
“He was just an extra-fun friend. No star trips whatsoever. Although he had a lot to lose, he never acted like it,” he wrote.
A rep for Depp did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
