Dick Van Dyke is recalling a visit to Disneyland where he almost flew under the radar!
The Mary Poppins actor, 99, and his wife Arlene, 54, hosted the Vandy High Tea, a charity event raising funds to benefit The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the Dick Van Dyke Museum, which is currently in development.
While doing a Q&A at the event, Arlene recalled how they were staying at the Anaheim, Calif., resort’s Dream Suite two years ago to celebrate her birthday. At one point during the trip, her husband wanted to get some fresh air out on the balcony, so they went outside and slowly waited to see how long it would take for people to notice they were there.
“I said, ‘Just go out there and see if people notice.’ And then, it was so cute. I was filming it and then I would tell him, ‘Wave at that person. Wave at that person.’ He was getting all excited,” she shared.

After spending time out on the balcony, Dick wanted to explore the park and try out some rides, his wife recalled.
“And so, we thought a wheelchair would be great to get him around,” she said. “Nobody noticed him because everybody’s either looking up or on their phone.”
She added that they were able to enjoy six attractions, including his favorite one, Radiator Springs Racers.
“We got around, we went on six rides. I got to go around with him. That was so special. His favorite ride was the Cars ride. He loved the Cars ride,” Arlene added.
Chiming in, Dick said that while he was able to have a great time at the park, he still wasn’t able to go totally unnoticed.
“A little girl came up to me and said, ‘Dip And Dyke,’” he joked.

During the event, guests enjoyed a variety of refreshments, such as the “Fitzwilly Fizz,” and ate sandwiches and desserts from Monrose Catering.
