Millie Bobby Brown is reportedly circling a role as 1996 Summer Olympics gymnast Kerri Strug in a new movie from director Gia Coppola!
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that Stranger Things star Brown, 21, is in final negotiations to star as gold medalist Strug, now 47, in a new movie titled Perfect from director Coppola, 38. As Deadline reported, a deal had not been closed for the movie yet but Netflix was in negotiations to release the movie, citing sources; THR reported that Netflix would plan to film the movie in 2026.
Screenwriter Ronnie Sandahl (Borg vs. McEnroe) is writing the movie’s script, as both outlets reported. The movie is based on the U.S. women’s gymnastics team’s victory at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where the then-18-year-old Strug landed an impressive vault while nursing an injured ankle that gave the American team its first-ever gold medal in the team competition. That gymnastics team, which also included gymnasts Amanda Borden, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Dominique Dawes, Amy Chow and Jaycie Phelps, was dubbed the “Magnificent Seven.”

The new movie role marks another potential project Brown will appear in for Netflix after movies like the Enola Holmes series, 2024’s Damsel and this year’s The Electric State. She will also reprise her career-making role as Eleven in Stranger Things in the blockbuster horror/science fiction series’ fifth and final season when it begins airing in November; a third Enola Holmes movie is also in the works at the streamer.
Coppola, the granddaughter of movie industry legend Francis Ford Coppola and niece of filmmaker Sofia Coppola, most recently directed last year’s The Last Showgirl, which earned its star, Pamela Anderson, critical acclaim and nominations at the Gotham Awards and Golden Globe Awards for her performance.
