NEED TO KNOW
Regina Hall and Amy Poehler are getting real about what goes on when getting a mammogram.
The One Battle After Another actress, 54, appeared on the Tuesday, Sept. 23 episode of Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. In a relatable conversation, the pair complained and cracked jokes about how uncomfortable the breast cancer screenings are.
“One time when I got a mammogram, I turned to the person and I was like, ‘It’s shocking how this hasn’t gotten better.’ How has this not gotten better? How do we still have to literally squeeze our boobs?” Poehler said.
“And I don’t have a lot of boobs,” Hall quipped. “I was like, what are you getting?”
“We’re squeezing it between two metal…” Poehler started to explain in awe as Hall quickly said, “Like a waffle. And then they’re like, ‘If you just move your arm a little…’ It’s kind of contorting your body.”

Poehler, 54, stressed that she’s lucky and grateful to have a nice place to get her mammograms done, but mentioned how empty the room is during screening and how that makes the experience even more uncomfortable.
“Not a poster on the wall. No art to look at. I was like, you guys don’t wanna put even an inspirational poster?” she said with a laugh. “Like, you don’t even want to play an old episode of Everybody Loves Raymond while we’re doing this?”
“No distractions,” Hall added. “There’s no sound. There’s no music.”

Poehler said it’s “shocking” how screenings are done while Hall stressed that “there’s gotta be a better way.”
“My breasts gave up!” Hall joked. “They were like, ‘Well, f— it. If we’ve got something in then we’ve got something in it.’ Because after a while they just couldn’t get a photo,” she joked. “And then what about when it comes out cloudy and they’re like, we need another one! Or we need an ultrasound!”
“They squeeze you in the tightest vice ever. They say, ‘Don’t move.’ And then they leave the room because there’s too much radiation,” she continued. “It’s just you, your nodes, and your breast and the rest of your body exposed and contorted.”
