NEED TO KNOW
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are the stars of The Morning Show — both behind and in front of the camera.
The powerhouse actresses play news anchors Bradley Jackson and Alex Levy in the Apple TV+ series and are also executive producers on the show. As season 4 approaches (Sept. 17), Witherspoon, 49, says that the magic she and Aniston, 56, have found on set and off is really something special.
“Oh, my God, I love this cast,” she tells PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of season 4. “And I love the crew too!”
“It’s just great. I mean, it’s really a family at this point,” Witherspoon says of the people who make the show a success, which includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Karen Pittman and Jon Hamm, among others. “And it’s a family that Jen and I put together, so that’s really meaningful.”

The show also mirrors some of Witherspoon and Aniston’s real-life experiences, as their onscreen personas navigate life in the public eye, which they are familiar with themselves.
“I think we get to talk about fame and how it affects your life, so that’s definitely one part of the story,” Witherspoon says of how life imitates art for her in the show. “And some of the characters deal with it differently, too. Does it corrupt? Or is it something that – it’s like a golden ring that you’re always reaching for, and once you get it, are you still happy? Are you happier?”
“I don’t know, it brings up a lot of questions,” she adds of how fame influences the story The Morning Show is telling.
The family-like relationship between Witherspoon and Aniston is one that the Friends star has commented on before, too.
“We have a real interesting relationship. It’s like, we’re family for sure,” Aniston said during an FYC event last year.
“We love to hate each other, and we love to love each other, and I think that’s sort of a really fun dynamic that Reese and I get to play,” she said. “And, of course, we would like to be together forever, I would think.”

Witherspoon and Aniston’s involvement in so many parts of the show “takes a lot out of” them, Aniston told PEOPLE previously.
“We’re involved in every single aspect of the show, on top of just the performance side, which is a big piece of it,” she said. “But I’ve got incredible support, and we have such an incredible team.”
Season 4 of The Morning Show picks up nearly two years after the events of season 3 and follows the successful merger of UBA and NBN. Alex, Bradley and the UBA team will grapple with “new responsibility, hidden motives and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America,” per the official logline.
