Grab your broomsticks and blend the “midnight margaritas” — Practical Magic 2 is officially one step closer to hitting theaters!
On Saturday, Sept. 13, star Nicole Kidman announced on Instagram that the sequel to the 1998 fantasy film has officially finished filming — and shared what appears to be a behind-the-scenes set clip.
“That’s a wrap on #PracticalMagic2! Thank you to the cast & crew for all your magic ✨,” wrote Kidman, 58, alongside a video of herself and costar Sandra Bullock. The footage shows the actresses — who are reprising their roles as sisters (and witches) Gillian and Sally Owens in the sequel — laughing and embracing as they frolic together in the field.
Newcomer Lee Pace added, “✨,” in the comments of the clip, which also featured a snippet of “Crystal.” (Stevie Nicks’ iconic re-recorded version of the Buckingham Nicks track was famously featured on the original 1998 soundtrack.)
Fans in the comments expressed excitement about the forthcoming sequel to the witchy cult classic — which was based on the 1995 Alice Hoffman novel of the same name — while others seemed astonished that filming for the movie has already finished.
Less than two months earlier, Kidman first announced her and Bullock’s first day on the set of the sequel in a similar fashion.
On July 18, the American-Australian actress posted behind-the-scenes footage of herself and her on-screen sister, 61, hugging and smiling widely on the set of the film. In the caption, Kidman wrote: “The witches are back ✨. Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic.”
The original film follows the sister duo as they fight off a curse that kills the men they fall in love with. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest starred as their on-screen aunts, parts they will be reprising in the long-awaited sequel.
Along with Pace, 46, other new additions to the cast include Joey King as Sally’s daughter, plus Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod. The new film is written by original screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, along with Succession’s Georgia Pritchett.

Last summer, original producer Denise Di Novi — who is on the Practical Magic 2 producing team, along with Kidman and Bullock — told Entertainment Weekly that the sequel will adapt the story of The Book of Magic, Hoffman’s 2021 follow-up novel and the fourth in the Practical Magic book series.
Speaking with PEOPLE in August 2024, the producer said that the forthcoming sequel will aim to keep the spirit of the original while still offering something new for fans. “I think the big mistake people make with sequels,” Di Novi said at the time, “is when they kind of want to reinvent the wheel and be totally original and surprise people that it’s different or whatever.”
“There’s a joyousness to that movie, and there’s such beautiful themes of sisterhood and family and acceptance, tolerance, love,” Di Novi continued. “Just the title that Alice Hoffman, the amazing author, thought of that’s now become part of the vernacular of Practical Magic is that there’s magic in daily life, in love, in family, in sisterhood. It’s magical, and we all have our gifts, and women have very particular and specific gifts. We really want to honor all of that.”
That spirit of sisterhood was alive and well on the set of the sequel, according to Kidman. In August, the star told PEOPLE that she and Bullock have such a close bond that they are “like sisters.”

“I can tease her, and she teases me,” Kidman said at the time, describing the duo’s dynamic as “insane.”
The Babygirl star also said the actresses can hardly believe they were back in the Practical Magic world again, 27 years later. “We’re both like, ‘What?’ But we were just right back into it,” Kidman told PEOPLE, adding of Bullock: “I adore her and she is so funny and so lovable. And we’re just having the best time together.”
