Police are following a new lead.
According to President Donald Trump, authorities have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a Sept. 10 speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him—in custody,” Trump said live on Fox News, per NBC News. “Everyone did a great job we worked with the local police, the governor, everybody did a great job.”
The person accused of killing Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, five senior law enforcement officials told NBC News.
The arrest comes after the FBI shared images of a person of interest in the case on Sept. 11. In the images, a man could be seen in a stairwell wearing a black shirt, dark jeans, a baseball cap and dark sunglasses. His shirt bore an image of an American flag.
Hours earlier, FBI special agent Robert Bohls shared, per NBC News, the shooter was believed to have used a high-powered, bolt-action rifle. “That rifle,” he said, “was recovered in a wooded area where the shooter had fled.”
At the time, investigators shared they’d also collected “footwear impression, a palm print and forearm imprints for analysis.”
