Ice Spice is up for a little “friendly competition.”
The “Phatt Butt” rapper, 25, spoke to NYLON for the outlet’s latest cover story and opened up about enjoying a bit of pressure to compete with other women in rap, as it helps her stay creatively hungry.
Ice’s thoughts came up as she spoke about looking back on interviews from when she rose to fame about three years ago and cringing.

NYLON singled out a Genius interview from 2022 when she described herself as a “two-hit wonder” in response to anyone who dismissed her as a “one-hit wonder” after “Munch (Feelin’ U)” became her breakout hit.
“Clearly, I was always just feeling, like, ‘Oh my God, I need to be better than my last time,’ you know?” she told the outlet.
“Honestly, the pressure’s great,” added Ice. “I think the girls [in rap] also enjoy the friendly competition amongst each other. I feel like that’s what keeps the spark.”

The Grammy-nominated artist recently quashed a years-long rumored beef with fellow rapper Latto, as they released a new collaboration titled “Gyatt” last week.
One industry peer Ice isn’t in competition with, however, is her friend Taylor Swift. “The thing about Taylor is that she keeps it so real,” said the “In Ha Mood” performer. “Not even kidding, but one of the biggest things that I always think about that Taylor said is ‘As long as you keep making music, everything’s going to be fine.’”

She continued, “Every time we hang out, she’s not just giving me advice, you know what I mean? We’re talking about the food we’re eating or whatever’s going on in the moment.”
However, Ice said, “whenever I’m feeling doubtful or not as confident, having writer’s block no matter what it is, things like that really, really stand out to me. She said that to me a few years ago, and it still stood with me.”
