NEED TO KNOW
There’s little Ricky Martin can’t do!
The Latin superstar, 53, reached for the needle and thread before grabbing the mic ahead of his MTV VMAs 2025 performance, admitting on Instagram that he suffered a “wardrobe malfunction” on Sunday. Sept. 7.
“Lots of laughter, friends and even a little wardrobe malfunction (I can sew if need be by the way 😆) lots of Make Up and grooming and friends around! it’s gonna be a very special day. Thank you @danielavesco for documenting it all this morning. Don’t forget to watch @vmas tonight,” he wrote.
Martin captioned the post alongside a slideshow of images that captured his getting-ready process ahead of the buzzy award show, where he was named the inaugural Latin Icon before taking the stage to perform a medley of his hits.

The first picture featured the singer sitting shirtless on a couch, bearing nothing but his six-pack abs and tatted upper body. He looked down at his pants, attempting to stitch together his waistband as described in his caption.
Don’t believe him? Swipe left and you’ll see a zoomed-in shot of his waistband, where he’s clearly pictured with a needle and thread in an effort to fasten the opening. Another image within the roundup sees him — still shirtless — pulling the thread taut.
The rest of the photos in the 12-slide Instagram carousel document his pre-VMA grooming routine. He was captured getting his hair cut and styled, zenning out in a bathrobe and preparing to eat a hearty breakfast before the big night.

The Latin Icon honor was presented by the “Private Emotion” musician’s pal Jessica Simpson, who handed him the award on stage at New York’s UBS Arena. He then shared a sweet speech, where he thanked his fans and family.
“Thank you so much for your love, I don’t even know where to start,” Martin said on stage after accepting the award from Simpson.
“This is very simple. This is for you all… I am addicted to your applause,” he continued. “That’s why I keep coming back. It’s you, not only here in America, but all of the world.”

“Thank you so much because it’s been 40 years,” added Martin. I started when I was a baby, and we’re still here. We just want to unite countries, we just want to break boundaries. We just want to keep music alive.”
Later in the speech, Martin dedicated the award to his four kids, twins Matteo and Valentino, daughter Lucia, and son Renn. (Martin had Matteo and Valentino, 17, via surrogate as a single dad. Later, with then-husband Jwan Yosef, the exes welcomed daughter Lucia, 6, and son Renn, 5, via surrogate nine months apart.)

“Everything I do, I do it with you in my mind and in my heart,” he said, before shouting out members of his team.
“And that’s it! I love you,” Martin concluded.
