NEED TO KNOW
Kate Gosselin is continuing to open up about her famous family.
Last month, the mom of eight started a TikTok account, and since then, she’s been sharing more information about their lives with her followers.
In the comments section of a TikTok video posted Monday, Sept. 1, to announce her upcoming TikTok live on Friday, Sept. 5, Kate, 50, responded to a follower who asked about her family’s experience with racism due to her and Jon Gosselin, who is of Korean heritage, having mixed-race children.
“was racism ever an issue for your family? i’m asian too and a year younger – i suffered A LOT. how did you handle it? ♥️,” the follower asked.

Kate then shared insight into her thoughts as a soon-to-be mom before she welcomed her eight children.
“Yes!” Kate replied, recalling how she “worried CONSTANTLY” when she was pregnant with twins Cara and Mady, both 24, because “we were in a predominantly white community.”
However, it was around this time when Kate said she began noticing ads and billboards with parents of different races, specifically “with one white parent and one Asian parent,” noting that this occurrence “started happening a lot.”
“I think this was a time when (sorry for lack of a better word) it was looked at as ‘cool’ to be mixed race!” she continued, chalking up the societal shift to “when tiger woods was becoming famous,” suggesting “maybe that is why?”
Kate said her kids — which also includes 21-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel — “didn’t go through too much” when they were younger but that “things changed a lot … and not for the better” as they got older.
The fan responded to Kate by saying their experience mirrored that of Kate’s children and said they “always found comfort watching you guys when i was younger knowing there was other kids just like me.”
“i’m very proud of the asian half of me – i hope they are too!! ⭐️,” the fan added.
During her previous TikTok live, Kate got candid about her 2009 divorce from ex-husband Jon.
She answered a fan-submitted question about how to navigate divorce during the live on Aug. 27, and spoke to her own experiences.
“I don’t know if you have kids or don’t have kids, but I just, I made decisions based on how I would want to be treated, honestly,” she said of her separation from Jon. “And I didn’t buy into all the drama and the hate, and the ugly. And I had kids involved, so I wanted it to be as peaceful for them as I possibly could.”
In an effort to “not stir up trouble,” Kate said she took steps to avoid that.
“I did not hire an attorney that wanted to stir up trouble; I just wanted it to be peaceful, and I wanted the best for my kids,” she continued. “A lot of things happened that I could not control that did not turn out well for my kids, but I did my best. We just got through it to the best of our ability.”
“It could’ve been a lot calmer and a lot nicer if everybody was willing to play nice,” she added.

Her TikTok activity has also given fans rare looks at some of her kids.
The first of her children to appear on her TikTok was Alexis. Alexis was shown briefly in one of Kate’s videos as she was packing her lunch for a work shift — she’s a pediatric home care nurse — and Alexis walked through the kitchen.
Since then, Aaden has made multiple appearances on the account.
During one, he reflected on his time on Jon & Kate Plus 8, and revealed what his favorite memory was from the TLC show, which ended in 2009 when he and his sextuplet siblings were 5 years old.
“Probably any time we went to Wyoming. That was really fun,” Aaden said.
