Taylor Swift’s Ex Taylor Lautner Reacts to News of Her Engagement

Taylor Lautner is reacting to his former girlfriend’s engagement!

The 33-year-old Twilight star, who dated Taylor Swift for a few months in 2009, is showing his support for the big news after she revealed that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce asked her to be his wife.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, hours after Swift and Kelce’s relationship made headlines, Lautner reposted a carousel to his Instagram account that was first shared by the NFL.

A split photo on the first slide was one of the couple’s official engagement announcement photos, showing them embracing in a flower-filled garden. At the bottom was a photo of the “Love Story” singer as she happily met Kelce on the football field after the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship earlier this year.

“This is so crazy. I cannot believe this is really happening. I’m in shock,” Swift said at the time of the tight end and his team winning the big game.

For the caption of the NFL’s post, the organization wrote, “Same” of their excitement at the couple’s happy news.

Though Swift and Lautner called their relationship quits well over a decade ago, the pair rekindled their friendship years after she “absolutely” dumped him.

“I think when you respect somebody for who they are, like in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive and continue that love in a different way,” the actor said during a December 2023 episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.

In July of that year, he even joined the Grammy winner onstage during her Eras Tour concert in Kansas City to premiere the music video he appears in for her track “I Can See You.”

“He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the Speak Now album, and I want to say he did every single stunt that you saw in that music video,” Swift said at the time as she introduced Lautner to the crowd. “He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name.” Lautner is now married to Taylor Dome after the couple tied the knot in 2022.

While Swift famously uses her breakups to inspire song lyrics, Lautner previously told PEOPLE what it was like to be known as the “Bad Blood” singer’s “best ex.”

“[That] sounds like a nice compliment to me,” he exclusively told PEOPLE at The Lemons Foundation 1st Charity Gala in West Hollywood in November 2023. “I will take it.”

At the event, the Abduction actor also shared that his wife is a “diehard Swiftie.”

“She let me know that I’m the only ex without a diss track now,” Lautner added. “So that sounds like a nice thing. I’ll take it and run. No complaints here.”

Although Swift and Kelce’s big engagement news was made public on Tuesday Aug. 26, during an interview with News 5’s John Kosich that same day, the sports star’s father, Ed Kelce, revealed that the proposal took place “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago” at Kelce’s home.

“It was beautiful,” he said of the moment.
