David Boreanaz Says Emily Deschanel’s Singing on the Set of Bones Was ‘Driving Me Crazy’

Emily Deschanel’s Bones costars are recounting the actress’ fondness for singing show tunes on set.

While speaking with fellow cast members during the Bones: 20th Anniversary Retrospective panel at the inaugural Televerse Festival on Saturday, Aug. 16, David Boreanaz said that Deschanel and others (including Eric Millegan, who played Dr. Zack Addy on the Fox series) were frequently “singing musicals, and it’s driving me crazy.”

“I like musicals, but it got to a point where I’m like…” he added.

Deschanel, 48, then interjected during the reunion talk — moderated by PEOPLE’s Sean Mandell and also featuring insight from T.J. Thyne, Hart Hanson, Tamara Taylor and Michaela Conlin — that she wasn’t sure Boreanaz could even name a song from a musical.

When Deschanel interjected with, “Name a song from a musical. Can you name a song from a musical?” Boreanaz responded: “Sure. Annie. ‘The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow.’ You know?”

Speaking to PEOPLE at the event, Deschanel said that singing show tunes was among her “favorite memories.”

“Probably singing all the songs from the musical Annie with Eric Milligan,” she said when asked what her favorite moment on set was, adding, “We got in trouble for that.”

Asked about rumors of a reboot, the actress didn’t rule it out, saying, “Never say never. I don’t know about a revival. I don’t know if that would ever happen, but I’m open to it.”

Bones ran for 12 seasons from 2005 through 2017. The series earned two Primetime Emmy nominations in 2009 and 2012. Since then, Deschanel and Bones costar Carla Gallo launched their rewatch podcast, Boneheads, in 2024.

Speaking with PEOPLE at Televerse, Deschanel said that looking back at the series for her podcast has been “fun,” especially after not seeing some of the episodes in two decades.

“It’s been really interesting to see the show because all of them I hadn’t watched for 20 years basically. And then there’s a couple so far that I hadn’t seen yet, I don’t think. And then definitely as we go along, there’ll be ones I never have seen,” she said. “So it’s interesting to look back and see like, ‘What did we do?’ And I guess one takeaway is, hey, it was pretty solid. The show is pretty solid.”
