NEED TO KNOW
Sharon Stone doesn’t see much of a point to the upcoming Basic Instinct reboot.
In an interview with TODAY, Stone shared she’s not keen on her 1992 film getting the reboot treatment, which was announced in July. The actress said there doesn’t seem to be a need for a revival, especially if the plot remains the same.
“If it goes the way the one that I was in went, I will just say, I don’t know why you’d do it,” she said. “I mean, go ahead, but good f—— luck.”

Basic Instinct starred Stone, 67, as crime novelist Catherine Tramell, who is implicated in a murder investigation spearheaded by Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas). The pair ultimately become entwined in a complicated relationship in the erotic crime thriller.
The reboot will be written by the original film’s screenwriter, Joe Eszterhaz, per Variety and will be released with Scott Stuber’s United Artists banner and Amazon MGM Studios. At the time of the announcement in July, The Wrap reported Stone may return for the reboot.
The original film was polarizing upon release, earning Academy Award nominations for its editing and original score but garnering scrutiny for its depiction of an LGBTQ+ character as a dangerous killer just as the HIV/AIDS epidemic was winding down.
The film was also criticized for its on-screen nudity during an infamous interrogation scene.

The film’s criticism led to protests on the night that Stone hosted Saturday Night Live on April 11, 1992 to promote the picture. The actress’s opening monologue was interrupted by protestors, with six being arrested.
The film got a sequel in 2006. Though it came from a different writer-producer duo, Stone did reprise her role in it.
