White House pool reporter Brian Glenn, who attacked Zelenskyy in February for not wearing a suit, raised his hand during Monday’s press conference and complimented the Ukrainian president’s new outfit.
“President Zelenskyy, you look fabulous in that suit. You look good,” Glenn said, as Trump chimed in, “I said the same thing!”
“I apologize to you,” Glenn added. “You look wonderful.”
Zelenskyy, who said he remembers Glenn, then teased the Real America’s Voice reporter, saying, “And you’re in the same suit. You see, I changed, you are not.”

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Zelenskyy has made public appearances in military-style uniforms to call attention to the dire circumstances his country is facing.
Though Zelenskyy dressed down at the White House during the Biden administration without any problems, MAGA Republicans have interpreted his pointed styling as a sign of disrespect since Trump took office in January.

Some blamed Zelenskyy’s uniform as the catalyst for Trump and Vance’s anger at their previous Oval Office meeting in February, and Axios cited two sources on Monday morning who said that this time around, the White House checked in with Ukrainian officials ahead of time to ask whether Zelenskyy would be getting into more formal wear this time.
One Trump adviser told Axios that “it would be a good sign for peace” if Zelenskyy wore a suit to his meeting with Trump on Monday, but added that they don’t “expect” him to do it.
Ultimately, Zelenskyy landed on a middle-ground that continues to honor the Ukrainian people’s plight but looks decidedly more formal than his last White House visit.
“This time the President [Zelenskyy] will be in a suit, but the style still remains in a military key with the same symbolism: he is the Head of State, which is at war,” said Elvira Gasanova, a Ukrainian businesswoman and Zelenskyy designer, according to Politico.

During Zelenskyy’s last visit to the White House on Feb. 28, the U.S. planned to sign a natural resources agreement with Ukraine and make progress on negotiating a peace deal.
The meeting then quickly turned into a humiliating confrontation, with Trump and Vance berating the Ukrainian president as Vance accused him of being “disrespectful” for trying to litigate U.S.-Ukraine policy in front of American journalists.
“You should be thanking the president for trying to bring you into this conference,” Vance angrily told Zelenskyy.

When Trump eventually cooled off, he quipped to reporters in the room that the outburst would make for “great television.” He then dismissed members of the media and the world leaders soon cut their meeting short.
Immediately after leaving the White House, dozens of world leaders jumped to Zelenskyy’s defense and slammed the United States’ behavior.

Ahead of Monday’s White House meeting, Trump slammed those who have criticized his approach to foreign affairs and expressed confidence that he can close a peace deal, writing on Truth Social, “I know exactly what I’m doing, and I don’t need the advice of people who have been working on all of these conflicts for years, and were never able to do a thing to stop them.”
“Despite all of my lightweight and very jealous critics, I’ll get it done — I always do!!!” he added.

On Friday, Aug. 15, Trump and Putin met at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, to talk about what it would take for Russia to stop its invasion of Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24, 2022.
The three-hour meeting did not lead to a ceasefire agreement, though Trump told reporters afterward that the two made “great progress” and rated the summit a 10 out of 10.
“We had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to. There are just a very few that are left,” Trump said. “Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant.”
Still, he offered no details about the content of their conversation, nor an explanation for why he rolled out a red carpet for Putin on the tarmac and spent alone time with the hostile leader in a limousine.
Unlike Trump’s other bilateral meetings, which have been followed by lengthy joint press conferences, the heads of state only briefly delivered prepared comments afterward and declined to take questions from reporters.
Putin spoke first, breaking the tradition of having the host nation kick off remarks, saying, “I expect that today’s agreements will be the starting point not only for the solution of the Ukrainian issue but also will help us bring back business-like and pragmatic relations between Russia and the U.S.”
All in all, Trump and Putin’s remarks about the summit lasted only 15 minutes.
