The animated film follows protagonists Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) as they live double lives as Kpop superstars HUNTR/X and demon hunters to protect the world from supernatural threats, including rival boy band SAJA BOYS.
The film notably became Netflix’s fourth most popular movie of all time, amassing an impressive 56.1 million views since its premiere on June 20, per What’s On Netflix. It’s also been in Netflix’s top 10 in a whopping 93 countries, per the site.

Its accompanying soundtrack has broken several records. The song “Golden” from the film — sung by EJAE, Audrey Nuna & REI AMI — recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s considered the first song from a female group to do so since Destiny’s Child in 2001 and is the first track from an animated film since 2021’s Encanto to pull off the feat.
“Idol” from the Saja Boys — Andrew Choi, Neckwav, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo & samUIL Lee — also made it on the top 10 at No. 8. Other songs from the film, including “Soda Pop,” “Free” and “Takedown,” have made appearances on the chart.
The film’s album also debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and then climbed to No. 2, where it is currently sitting. This makes it the highest‑charting animated soundtrack of 2025 and the best since Disney’s Encanto (2021).
During a recent earnings call, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos reportedly praised Kpop Demon Hunters. According to TheWrap, he described it as “a phenomenal success out of the gate.”

“And the fact that people are in love with this film and in love with the music from this film, that will keep it going for a long time. So we’re really thrilled. And now the next beat is, where does it go from here?” he added.
Netflix was reportedly so thrilled with the film’s accomplishment that the streamer said it was considering expanding the franchise with animated sequels and a live-action remake along with other media, per The Wrap.
KPop Demon Hunters A Sing-Along Event will hit theaters on Aug. 23 and 24. Tickets will go on sale here on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
