Hulu will reportedly add John Wick, one of the best action franchises in history, just after Disney announced its intention to kill the streaming service. Recently, it was revealed that Hulu will merge with Disney+ into one app in 2026. The merger marks a new age for both streaming services, although they will maintain separate purchasing options.
However, according to Hulu’s schedule for August, the streaming site will be adding all the John Wick movies in its final stretch as an independent streaming app. The full John Wick film series will be available to stream on Hulu starting Aug. 15, 2025, constituting all four movies, from the 2014 original film up to 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4.
The John Wick movies, which star Keanu Reeves as the main assassin character, quickly made headway in the world of cinema, becoming one of the biggest action movie franchises in recent years. The John Wick films have earned a collective gross of more than $1 billion worldwide, with mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
What John Wick’s Addition Means For Hulu
The addition of all the John Wick movies marks one last major action release for Hulu before the streaming site is merged with Disney+. Interestingly, it is not the only franchise experiencing a Hulu debut before the merger, as the Alien: Earth series also gears up for a release on Hulu before its integration, debuting on Aug. 12.
While the inclusion of John Wick on Hulu is exciting, Disney’s plans will likely affect how viewers will be able to access certain content. Viewers will still be able to watch the John Wick movies when the integration happens, but it may be accessed differently, especially considering Disney’s limitations on more mature movies and TV shows.
Our Take On John Wick’s Hulu Release
John Wick is a brilliant action franchise to release on Hulu before its inevitable move, as the service has been a go-to for many for gritty content. John Wick’s world doesn’t make much sense — in fact, the franchise is quite funny — but that’s what makes it such a great high-octane series, and its action-packed dark humor is exactly what Hulu needs.
Hulu was originally launched 17 years ago, whereas Disney+ only launched 5 years ago. Therefore, it’s hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia for the streaming site as it prepares to close its doors as an independent service. That being said, John Wick is almost the perfect send-off, generating revenue for Hulu’s solo streaming site one last time.
