Travis Kelce is opening up about his and Taylor Swift‘s love story.
In a candid cover story for GQ published Tuesday (Aug. 12), the Kansas City Chiefs tight end spoke at length about how he and the pop superstar forged a genuine connection despite all of the prying eyes and cameras that have been pointed at them nonstop since they first started dating in 2023.
“Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people,” Kelce began.
“When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love,” he continued. “It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out,” he continued. “[But] it happened very organically, even though from a media standpoint, it was being tracked.”
The athlete went on to explain what he means when he says his romance with Swift happened “organically.” “We fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together with,” he told the publication. “We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are. We share all those values. It kind of just took the f–k off.”
Kelce’s interview comes almost two years after he and the 14-time Grammy winner first stepped out together, with Swift attending a September 2023 home game at Arrowhead Stadium. Since then, the musician has been present at many of the Grotesquerie star’s matchups, often sharing a box suite with his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce.
On the topic of his mom, Travis revealed that he thinks Donna — who supported her family by working as a banker while her kids were growing up — and Swift have a lot in common. “Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room,” the Ohio native told GQ, listing the two women’s shared traits. “Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic.”
“I saw my mother reach goals that she had set for herself [and] go from being a teller to working all the way up in the KeyBank building,” he added. “I’ve seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.”
Indeed, the hitmaker has continued reaching unprecedented levels of success in her career over the years, from grossing more than $2 billion on her record-shattering Eras Tour to winning a historic fourth album of the year at the 2024 Grammys. Travis was in her corner cheering her on for both of those feats, and now, he’s even helping her kickstart a new era by joining her in announcing The Life of a Showgirl — Swift’s 12th studio album — on his New Heights podcast.
