Star Wars’ upcoming TV show, Star Wars: Visions season 3, will finally show something the Star Wars sequel trilogy never explored, and it’s more than time for it to be shown in Star Wars movies and TV shows. Although Visions is not part of the canon Star Wars timeline, it has proven to be a fascinating addition to the franchise.
From introducing some of Star Wars’ coolest lightsabers to exploring brand-new stories, the show has taken advantage of the freedom that comes with not being a canon TV show. Now, Visions will take that one step further, finally giving Star Wars audiences a look at one story that really should have been shown in the sequel trilogy.
The Sequels Never Showed Us How The Jedi Come Back From The Brink
The sequel trilogy, unfortunately, continues to be seen as some of Star Wars’ worst movies, for myriad reasons. Chief among those was the treatment of Luke Skywalker’s character, particularly his almost entire absence from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Many had hoped Luke Skywalker would be in his prime, leading a new Jedi Order in the sequels.
That was far from the case, as Star Wars: The Last Jedi instead revealed that Luke’s Jedi Temple had been destroyed and, subsequently, Luke elected to go into exile. All of that was disappointing, but one of the biggest letdowns was that we never even got to see the steps Luke took to rebuild the Jedi Order.
This was a massive undertaking, and it was in many ways Luke’s destiny, so it was surprising for the sequels to neglect that concept entirely. We have since gotten some insight into the early days of Luke’s Jedi Temple, with The Book of Boba Fett showing some of Grogu’s brief training under Luke.
Yet, even with that, there wasn’t much attention paid to Luke’s efforts to completely rebuild the Order. While it remains to be seen whether Star Wars will ever tell that Luke Skywalker story, we are about to get a version of it with Visions season 3.
“The Ninth Jedi” Timeline Is About To Show A True Jedi Order Reborn
Visions season 3 will finally show Star Wars audiences what it looks like to rebuild a Jedi Order. In Visions season 1, episode 5, “The Ninth Jedi,” the Jedi are nearly extinct, and the galaxy is teeming with dark side Force users. Among the Star Wars Celebration 2025 reveals was the news that this episode would be getting a follow-up.
One season 3 episode will be titled “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” and there will then be a sequel series titled Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi released in 2026. Both the upcoming episode and the sequel series will see an attempt to restore the Jedi Order (and the efforts of the Sith to prevent its return).
Although this will be a non-canonical story and will still not feature Luke’s Jedi Temple, this will be the closest Star Wars has come to date to depicting the return of a Jedi Order. Hopefully, we will eventually see this Luke Skywalker story, but for now, Star Wars: Visions season 3 can finally offer a glimpse of such a story.
