NEED TO KNOW
Seth Rogen knew exactly who to channel for his adventurous fashion choices in the latest season of Platonic.
The Emmy nominee, who plays the character Will in the Apple TV+ comedy, revealed on a Wednesday, Aug. 6, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that his wardrobe in Platonic was inspired by a certain pop songwriter and producer.
“It’s just incredibly, I don’t want to say silly, I’d say Benny Blanco was on my mood board,” Rogen, 43, joked, after nodding to the work of costume designer Kameron Lennox. “In the show, my character’s sort of going through a midlife crisis and trying desperately to cling to youth.”
Before Rogen mentioned Blanco, 37, the actor was shown several snaps of himself from the latest season of the comedy series wearing bucket hats, oversized suits and some other pieces reminiscent of Blanco’s colorful attire. As Rogen explained, his character has even become something of a trend-setter over the last two seasons.
“In the first season, a similar thing happened where I was like, ‘What would a sad midlife crisis look be?’ So I cut my hair very short and I beached it,” Rogen told host Jimmy Fallon. “And then, by the time the show came out, that actually became a cool thing guys were doing who were having midlife crisis.”

“And in this season, I have a stupid mullet. Like, the dumbest haircut you could have, you know? And I did it to look stupid. Now, currently — we shot the show a year ago — they are in fashion right now! It’s very sad. Just know, if you have a mullet, I’m making fun of you.”
As for Blanco, the musician caught up with PEOPLE last year to discuss what his wardrobe really says about him, sharing that “if you’re wearing the most expensive thing that just came out, you’re not fashionable.”
“I think the best thing is mixing it and being yourself,” he said. “If you’re yourself in your clothes, you’re going to feel more confident. For me, I like to wear a lot of vintage clothing. Some people look good with really fresh clothing. Find your lane and rock it. Don’t try to be someone else.”
Rogen stars in Platonic alongside Rose Byrne as a pair of childhood best friends who reconnect years later. The two are also executive producers on the show. The latest season follows a two-year hiatus on Apple TV+ and also stars Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Andrew Lopez and Carla Gallo.

“I would love to keep doing the show,” Rogen told PEOPLE this week of the latest run. “It’s lovely. And, I think, these characters are far … have a long way to go until they’re functional adults.”
The first two episodes of Season 2 of Platonic premiered on Wednesday, Aug. 6, with later episodes arriving weekly on Apple TV+ ahead of its Oct. 1 finale.
