NEED TO KNOW
Mariah Carey might’ve spaced out about this major news story months ago.
During an appearance on BBC Radio’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show shared on Thursday, Aug. 7, the Queen of Christmas was asked about Katy Perry’s trip to space this past April — and her iconic responses went viral.
“Would you fancy going to space? You know, like Katy Perry did,” Scott Mills asked Carey, 56, who coolly responded, “Did she go to space?”
Mills confirmed that Perry, 40, did indeed go to space, and Carey followed up with “Where’d she go?” Though the BBC Radio host, 52, couldn’t confirm exactly where, a crew member shouted off-camera that the “Firework” singer went “just into orbit and back.”
“Into orbit and back? She was, like, floating in the… and this is true?” the “We Belong Together” hitmaker asked, to which Mills said, “Yeah, I have not made this up. This is true.”
“Wow. Alright Katy,” a seemingly shocked Carey said, adding, “I’m not mad at her. That’s pretty amazing.”

“I mean, she hasn’t stopped talking about it since,” Mills added of Perry’s 11-minute trip to space and back. “But it happened. Would you do it?”
Carey quipped, “I think I’ve done enough.”
Fans loved the interview clip, which had since gone viral. “I love that Mariah just lives in her own bubble! What a queen ❤️,” one person said.
Another wrote: “I would love to be as unbothered as Mariah, she never knows ANYTHING nor ANYBODY 😂😂😂.”
“She lives on Planet Mariah. Lucky girl,” a third joked.
In April, Perry, 40, along with journalist Gayle King, philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, activist Amanda Nguyen and NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and film producer Kerianne Flynn went to space aboard a Blue Origin rocket on an all-female mission.
Flight NS-31 took off from West Texas on April 14, bringing the women to the edge of space and then returning after little over 10 minutes.
“One day when you’re older, will YOU still look up in wonder?” Perry posted on Instagram following the trip. “Still processing this incredible journey ✨ Thank you @blueorigin and to my space sisters, taking up space AND making room in space for all – 143.”
“See you on tour (when I come down, figuratively),” she added, referring to her Lifetimes Tour.
While orbiting, Perry sang a few bars of “What a Wonderful World.” Upon returning to Earth, Perry kissed the ground.

The expedition didn’t come without criticism. The Newsroom actress Olivia Munn shared her thoughts ahead of the mission. “I know this probably isn’t the cool thing to say,” she said on the April 3 episode of the Today show. “But there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.”
In a press conference following the space trip, Sànchez, 55, said, “I would love to have them come to Blue Origin and see the thousands of employees that don’t just work here but they put their heart and soul into this vehicle.”
Added the philanthropist: “They love their work and they love the mission and it’s a big deal for them.”
“So when we hear comments like that, I just say, ‘Trust me. Come with me. I’ll show you what this is about, and it’s, it’s really eye-opening,'” said Sànchez.
