Luke Combs made an interesting decision in college.
In the Thursday, July 31 episode of The Dog Walk with Eddie podcast, the country star opened up about choosing to do a cappella over pledging a fraternity in college.
According to Combs, 35, he rushed Kappa Alpha Order, but had a scheduling conflict when it came down to decision time.

“On Big Brother reveal night we had a concert for the a cappella group, the same night that was gonna be at the same time,” he recalled.
At the time, Combs was “already kind of over” the pledging process and Big Brother reveal night solidified it.
“Like, what is this? What are we, 10 years old? I’m not doing that,” he said of the event.
Added Combs: “Why does anyone really join a fraternity? To go to parties and meet chicks is kind of the deal, right? So I tell the guys, ‘Hey, I really gotta do this concert tonight.’ Because there’s only like 12 people in the group, it’s not like there’s 1,000 guys in the a cappella group. I’m like, ‘Your boy’s got solos. I can’t just not go.'”
His would-be brothers ultimately made him decide between the fraternity or a cappella.
“I was like, ‘Well, I’m doing that, dude. I’m out,’” Combs said, referring to his choice to do a cappella.
In retrospect, the “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma” musician “made the right choice, obviously.”
But even now, Combs “would’ve loved to have been able to do both.”
“It was the idea that was making me pick one or the other,” he said, noting there was “no wiggle room.”
Added Combs: “I was just like, ‘I kind of already sing and I’m already kinda good at that. All I’m doing with you guys is paying to be your friend, which I already have a lot of friends anyways.’ It just didn’t line up.”
Ultimately, there’s “no hard feelings” from the “Fast Car” performer.
Combs recently became emotional during his set at Newport Folk Festival on July 26.
In a fan video shared via TikTok, the “Beautiful Crazy” musician was singing “Whoever You Turn Out To Be,” a song about watching your children grow up, when he began to tear up during the lyrics, “But you ain’t gotta change the world to make your daddy proud.”
Combs then wiped his face with a towel and composed himself before continuing the performance while the crowd cheered him on during the brief singing break.
“Sorry. That got me a little bit,” he told the audience.
