Madonna is recognizing her fans with a heartfelt tribute.
On Friday, Aug. 1, the “Holiday” singer reissued her song “Dress You Up” for a three-track digital release in honor of its 40th anniversary.
Madonna, 66, dedicated the release to Barbie designers Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, who died in a car accident in Italy on Sunday, July 27.
“With the tragic news this week of the passing of the doll designers and Madonna superfans Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, we dedicate this release to them,” according to a press release. “Thank you for dressing up so many of your creations in Madonna iconic looks over the years.”

The song, which was the final single from Like a Virgin, released on July 31, 1985. It “continues to endure cross generational appreciation for this timeless dance classic”
The tracks on the album include “Dress You Up Remix/Edit,” “Dress You Up the 12″ Formal Mix” and “Dress You Up the Casual Instrumental Mix.”
Paglino and Grossi were professional and romantic partners who founded Magia 2000 in 1999, a company that designs custom Barbie dolls. They also created the Italian Doll Convention in 2011, which is the largest event for fashion dolls throughout Europe.
They were killed on July 27 when an 82-year-old man was driving on the wrong side of Italy’s A4 Turin-Milan highway, according to Sky TG24 and Italian news outlet ANSA.
The head-on collision took place near the Marcallo-Mesero tollbooth in Lombardy. Ansa reported that Egidio Ceriano was the elderly man who caused the accident, and that 37-year-old banker Amodio Valerio Giurni was also killed.
Giurni’s wife, Silvia Moramarco, was injured and hospitalized in Milan.
Barbie posted about Grossi and Paglino’s death on Instagram on Monday, July 28, with a heartfelt tribute and a picture of them standing beneath a sign that says Barbie.
“The Barbie team is heartbroken by the loss of Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, two treasured creators and Mattel collaborators who brought joy and artistry to the world of Barbie as Magnia2000.”
“As passionate and talented designers and lifelong collectors, their spirit and love for the brand turned every creation they touched into a masterpiece,” the statement added. “Beyond their remarkable talent, they shared an energy that lit up every space they entered.”

Throughout their careers, Grossi and Paglino led the Italian Doll Convention in Milan and showcased “their talents and love for Barbie at doll shows all over the world, their presence brought warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging,” per the tribute.

“Their generosity was boundless, creating countless dolls to be auctioned to benefit charities close to fellow collectors’ hearts. Barbie is better because they loved the brand, and our beloved collector community is richer for having known them and shared in their passion.”
“Barbie honors their memory with deep gratitude,” concluded the tribute.
