Jane Austen’s timeless novel Pride and Prejudice has inspired many works of art since its release — and now it’s headed to Netflix!
On April 10, the streamer announced that best-selling author Dolly Alderton and director Euros Lyn were adapting Pride and Prejudice into a six-part series, starring Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton told Tudum. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
The new series will join the lineup of dozens of other movies and series that have been adapted from Austen’s novel. While no release date has been announced yet, there are plenty of versions available to view throughout the wait.
In fact, the 2005 film adaptation, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, will be re-released in theaters beginning April 18 in honor of its 20th anniversary later this year!
From the cast to the plot, here’s everything we know so far about the Pride and Prejudice series adaptation.

The Pride and Prejudice series will be a period-faithful adaptation and closely follow the original text, per Tudum.
Austen’s novel, which was released anonymously in 1813, tells the complex love story between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentlemen, and Mr. Darcy, a rich aristocratic landowner.
While their opposing lifestyles and clashing places in society lead them to judge one another at first, they evolve throughout the story, overcoming their preconceived notions and (spoiler alert!) falling in love.
According to Jane Austen’s House, over 20 million copies of the original novel have been sold since it was released over 200 years ago.

Though production is still in the early days, the Pride and Prejudice series adaptation already has a few Hollywood stars slated to join the cast.
Corrin and Lowden are set to take on the star-crossed couple, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Corrin is best known for playing Princess Diana in The Crown and starring as the villain in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, while Lowden gained acclaim for his roles in 2021’s Benediction and Apple TV+’s Slow Horses.
Colman will step into the role of Mrs. Bennet, marking a reunion between her and Corrin, as the former also starred in The Crown.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Corrin told Tudum. “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
More casting news came in July 2025, when Netflix revealed that Rufus Sewell is set to play Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor will play Jane Bennet and Jamie Demetriou will play Mr. Collins, as reported by Variety.
The cast also includes Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourg.

Pride and Prejudice will be directed by Lyn, who is well-versed in book-to-show adaptations after helming Netflix’s Heartstopper, which was originally a comic book series.
He will work with best-selling author Alderton to bring the story to life.
“The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm,” she told Tudum. “With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
