NEED TO KNOW
Fans of Resident Alien just got some bad news.
On Thursday, July 24, Chris Sheridan, the creator and showrunner of the SyFy turned USA Network series, revealed to TV Insider that the show’s currently-airing fourth season will be its last.
Though the news came as a big surprise to fans of the series, which is based on Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse’s comic of the same name, it was less of a shock to Sheridan.
“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” he told TV Insider.
The showrunner’s hunch that season 4 would be the show’s last led him to make some creative decisions that would tidy things up.
He told the outlet that it was “creatively…exciting” to go into the season knowing it was likely the show’s last, “because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.”

“I’m so proud of how good season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did,” he continued.
Sheridan also teased that the season 4 finale, which is now the series finale, “is probably my favorite episode of the series.”
The cast is also reacting to the sad news and reflecting on their experiences on the show.
In a post on Threads, Alan Tudyk, who played the alien masquerading as Colorado doctor Harry Vanderspeigle, wrote, “It was a hell of a fun playground to play in. Laughter through the tears:)))”
Corey Reynolds, who plays Sheriff Mike Thompson, called Resident Alien the “best job I ever had” in a post on Threads and admitted the cancellation news is “definitely a disappointing turn of events.”
“Frankly, I would’ve been happy playing, Sheriff Mike ‘Big Black’ Thompson, for the rest of my life 🤠,” he wrote. “But, if there is an upside here, it’s that we were somewhat prepared for this, so you the fans, will still get a complete story.”

Like Sheridan, he teased that the final episodes of the show are worth the wait and will give the story a proper “end.”
Star Sara Tomko shared a lengthy statement in response to the cancellation news, as she said the show “changed my life.”
In an Instagram post, Tomko, 41, who has played Asta Twelvetrees, admitted that it will “take time for me to process and digest this fully” as she shared a carousel of photos with her castmates and from set. “I will definitely be sharing BTS photos of our many years together in time,” she wrote.
“For now, I can say with a full heart that this show changed my life completely,” her lengthy caption continued. “Every season we were told how lucky we were to still have a job and I can say with full certainty that luck had nothing to do with it because this cast, our chemistry, our crew, our circumstances, our strength was always held up by an incredible team of writers, producers and our ever-growing fans whose unwavering loyalty kept us enduring.”
“I will never forget this time in my life nor the effect this show had on all of us. Thank you for your love and support,” Tomko added.

Like Sheridan and Reynolds, she ended her post by teasing a great last three episodes of the show. “Join us as we make our way to the grand finale,” she wrote.
