NEED TO KNOW
A day at work can sometimes be unpredictable, and that was true for the Superman cast.
The action movie, written and directed by James Gunn, features several scenes that take place on the high-tech flying T-Craft. The fictional aircraft was created by Mister Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, and operates with the assistance of his T-Spheres.
While Mister Terrific flies the sleek aircraft for a majority of the movie, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane takes the wheel toward the end and invites her colleagues at the Daily Planet newspaper on board.
Mikaela Hoover, 41, who plays gossip columnist Cat Grant, tells PEOPLE the cast “didn’t know anything about the T-Craft” prior to filming the scene.
“When we got in there and we buckled our seat belts, we had no idea that [the T-Craft] was really going to lift up or go down or right or left,” she says. “We didn’t know what was going to happen. So all of those reactions we had in the T-Craft are real.”

The actress compares the feeling to a being on a roller coaster or a “topsy-turvy” ride. “One of the cast members has a weak stomach and was like, ‘I’m gonna be sick.’ It was quite the experience,” she recalls.
The T-Craft scene with the Daily Planet gang took “all day” to film, according to the actress.

“We were in there for a long time and there were a lot of takes, but we got the hang of what was going to happen. It was that first initial time going up in there that we didn’t know how bumpy it would be or what was going to happen to us all,” she explains.
The new movie stars David Corenswet as the titular character and delivers “a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind,” per a synopsis.
The cast continues with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion as a Green Lantern. Sara Sampaio, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría and Wendell Pierce also star.

With high hopes for the reboot of the DC Cinematic Universe, Hoover wants to see her character in future installments, but notes that it is ultimately up to the powers that be.
“I would hope to see Cat and the Daily Planet in future projects but I don’t have a crystal ball, so I have no idea what her future is. Of course, one can only hope that she continues on,” she says.
Superman is in theaters now.
