NEED TO KNOW
The Jonas Brothers’ latest project has an important connection to their family.
Speaking with PEOPLE and partnering with Mastercard in support of Stand Up to Cancer, Nick Jonas reveals how the campaign resonated with them. Their father, Kevin Jonas Sr., was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2017 and has been in remission since 2018.
“[The] more emotionally challenging periods really test your endurance,” Nick, 32, says.
“But [our dad] was just such a champion and so brave through our whole process. It [was] with such thoughtfulness that I think it helped all of us a lot and provided us with the encouragement we needed when in fact we were just trying to support him.”
“Everyone has their own experience too in life’s challenging moments and I’m so grateful that we have gotten to the other side of that and become closer as a family and stronger,” adds the singer.

Joe, 35, agrees, mentioning how Kevin Sr has undergone treatments and procedures and has since been in remission. “Which is wonderful,” he notes.
“So cancer affects everyone in our life and so we’re lucky to be a part of this campaign to make sure that we raise more awareness for people and bring joy to them in a different capacity,” Joe says, noting that he and his brothers are doing so “with our music instead of just focusing on the negative all the time.”
Nick, Joe and Kevin, 37, released the song and music video for “I Can’t Lose” on Tuesday, July 15, during the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, following the placard moment. The music video features superfans and their loved ones who were invited to share their stories about how cancer impacted their lives.
These fans were surprised by the JoBros in New York, who performed the song from their upcoming album Greetings From Your Hometown for the very first time, just for them.

“We’ve been lucky enough to meet some incredible fans over the years and this partnership with Mastercard really has been wonderful for us to spend some time with some of our fans who’ve been affected by cancer,” Joe says of their work with Mastercard and Stand Up to Cancer.
“It was really nice to spend time and get to know them a bit more and hear their stories and just to be a part of their journey in some capacity or a distraction musically to help them through a little bit of what they’re going through.”
Nick calls the chorus to their new song “an anthem to persevere” despite things not going their way. “The song is all about spreading a message of hope,” he says.
“The sentiment alongside MasterCard and Stand Up to Cancer just made perfect sense. Anytime we can be a very small part of someone’s journey through tough times in life, we’re really grateful for that. And writing and recording songs like this that speak to that message of hope is really important to us.”
