NEED TO KNOW
It wasn’t easy for Brandi Cyrus to watch her mom, Tish, get remarried.
Both Cyrus family members appeared on the latest episode of Harry Jowsey’s Boyfriend Material podcast, and Brandi, 38, opened up about how it felt watching Tish, 58, get married to husband Dominic Purcell in August 2023 after her divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus in April 2022.
The conversation began with Tish claiming most of the dating advice she receives from within the family is through daughter Miley, to which Brandi responded, “I feel like you don’t like taking her dating advice.”

Tish asked for clarification, and Brandi said, “I feel like you like taking your own dating advice.”
Her mom agreed. “I do like taking my own advice and look, it worked out perfect,” she exclaimed, adding that “Miley was very encouraging” about her marriage to Purcell, 54.
Brandi explained, “We all were, but I did tell you you were rushing marriage a little bit. A little bit. It scared me.”

“I’m like, ‘We just got outta one marriage. Why are we jumping into another?’ It just freaked me out,” continued the DJ and Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast cohost.
“I’m just saying,” clarified Brandi, “sometimes when you rush things, then you have to take a few steps backwards and work through a bunch of s— that you skipped.”
Her mom replied, “Yeah. Well, I do that.”
Tish and Billy Ray, 63, divorced after more than 28 years of marriage. They share daughters Miley, 32, and Noah, 24, and son Braison, 30. The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer also adopted Tish’s daughter Brandi and son Trace, 35, from her previous marriage.
In a July 2024 episode of the Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast, Tish opened up to Brandy about having “such a fear of being alone” following her divorce from Billy Ray and how she was immediately drawn to Purcell after they met through Instagram DMs.

“He was just so different in every aspect of the relationship that I had been in,” she said. “As a matter of fact, in the first week that we met, he had told me that he does therapy once a month, and he has for like, 20 years. I went to therapy with him. It was so cool. Like, two weeks in.”
Tish said they dove right in during therapy sessions, noting she appreciated Purcell’s concerns over possibly moving too quickly.
“One of the first things he said in therapy was, ‘I just want to make sure that I’m not pushing Tish too fast into a new relationship. She’s just gone through a divorce and I want to really learn how to walk her through that in the best way possible.’ And I was just like, ‘Whoa,’” she said. “Anyway, Dom’s awesome. He’s great. He’s just really stepped up and shown up and done it all right.”
