NEED TO KNOW
Harrison Ford has another feather in his cap.
On Tuesday, July 15, Brenda Song and Harvey Guillón announced the nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards and the 83-year-old actor earned his first-ever nod. He scored a nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for Shrinking, which he stars in as Dr. Paul Rhodes, a therapist and colleague of Jason Segel’s Jimmy Laird.
The show earned a total of four nominations, including outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for Segel, outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for Jessica Williams and outstanding comedy series.
Ford has not been nominated for Shrinking before, which many fans previously saw as a snub.
The Oscar winner has starred in the Apple TV+ comedy series about grieving therapist Jimmy (Segel) since its premiere in 2023.

While Segel has been recognized before for the show, it’s Ford’s first time. Shrinking marks a rare recurring TV role for the legendary actor, and it’s one he told PEOPLE he takes “deadly f—— seriously” considering the real-life inspiration for his character’s story.
Brett Goldstein, who created the show with Bill Lawrence and is a writer on it, based Ford’s character’s Parkinson’s journey on his father’s experience, which is part of why the actor has such a serious approach.
“There’s no intention to make it into a joke,” Ford said. “But there are people that absorb these kinds of experiences with grace and courage and a little bit of wisdom. And that is not to say that some people do not.”
“It’s just to say that this is a person particularly equipped to communicate what it is that it’s like, and that is something that I feel that is worth sharing with our audience.”
Ford faces the reigning, two-time winner in the category.
The other nominees in the category with Ford are: Ike Barinholtz for The Studio, Colman Domingo for The Four Seasons, Jeff Hiller for Somebody Somewhere, Ebon Moss-Bachrach for The Bear, Michael Urie for Shrinking and Bowen Yang for Saturday Night Live.

For the last two years, Moss-Bachrach has won for The Bear, on which he plays Richie.
Notably, Ford’s role as Dutton family patriarch in 1923 was not recognized.
The Yellowstone prequel series released its second and final season earlier this year, and Ford’s portrayal of Jacob Dutton, ancestor of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, did not get a nomination.
1923 was largely snubbed overall as Ford’s costar Helen Mirren also was not recognized for the series, nor was Brandon Sklenar.

The show did receive two nominations, though, one for outstanding production design for a narrative period or fantasy program and outstanding period costumes.
